Slight profit on Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday night, as the under cashed easy but McDavid was a shot short in the Panthers 4-1 win, so I went 1-1 to win 0.44 units. I’ll take it and my series bet looks great. Tonight the series shifts to Edmonton as the Oilers desperately need a win to stay alive. Let’s keep winning!
Game 3 – Oilers vs. Panthers (8:00)
The Florida Panthers remind me of the Golden Knights that beat them in the Cup Finals last year, and it’s looking like this series may go the same way with the Panthers likely winning it in five games. Historically 91% of teams going up 2-0 in the Finals go on to lift Lord Stanley, which is great for my series bet. The Oilers were the better team in Game 1 but Florida won 3-0 with an incredible game from Bobrovsky to get the shutout. Edmonton scored first in Game 2 with Mattias Ekholm scoring their only goal of the series so far 11:17 into the first on a terrible goal that Bobrovsky should absolutely have saved, making him look human. Bob was perfect in goal after that though as Florida rallied back. Niko Mikkola, after almost scoring on his own goal went back the other way and tied up the game at 1-1 in transition, 9:34 into the second. In the third period, Evan Rodrigues, after scoring in Game 1, got two more goals, the second coming on the power play, to put his Panthers up 3-1 and then Aaron Ekblad capped the game off with another empty netter. Although they didn’t play their best hockey in Game 1, Florida was definitely the better team in Game 2, outshooting the Oilers 29-19 and outplaying them by an expected goal rate of 2.92-1.39. This game is an absolute must win for the Oilers. If they lose this at home, the series is completely over. I like the Oilers to win it, and I’ll take them for half a unit, along with McDavid’s shots prop for half a unit. That hit easily in Game 1 where he had six shots in a fantastic effort, but feel a shot short in Game 2. I love the under once again too, which I’ll take for 1.5 units.
