Jenn’s season of The Bachelorette comes to an end tonight with a three hour live finale that’s sure to bring “something that’s never happened“. This season has been quite entertaining, filled with drama but with a lot of questions. Last week we had an electric fantasy suites week leaving Devin and Marcus as Jenn’s final two, both of which she told she was in love with, both with question marks to their relationships. What will happen? Will Jenn actually end up with either of these guys, let’s find out. Live!
Jenn starts the week seeing her family that she loves both Devin and Marcus pretty equally, but Devin has told her that he loves her, where Marcus hasn’t “but wants to”. Devin meets her family first. Jenn’s mother tells her that she thinks she needs more time to move forward with their relationship. Jenn’s brother doesn’t give Devin his blessing because he hasn’t met the other guy. Not great for both the mother and the brother to make this process go easily, which isn’t how this show goes.
Marcus gets his turn next, and judging by how it didn’t go all that great with Devin, I can’t imagine it goes any better with Marcus, who still hasn’t told Jenn he loves her. Marcus really can’t answer the questions her family asks her, clearly showing that he isn’t there to even be close to an engagement. Jenn’s family highlights for him that he’s emotionally unavailable and she really needs him to answer her questions on where he sees this going. When she asks him, he says that this week is progress and that this helps. Clearly this isn’t going anywhere.
Devin has the first final date, which starts with a Hawaiian spiritual ceremony. At night, Devin gives Jenn a gift from their one on one date, which is very meaningful to her in that he waited until now and he really solidifies that he’s here for her and loves her.
Jesse talks to Marcus before his final date with Jenn and he still talks about how he thinks each time they spend time together their relationship keeps progressing…but it’s way too late at this point. Jenn wants answers before their date even starts and goes to Marcus’s room to talk to him. She lays out all of her concerns to him straight up. He says he has his concerns but wants to keep trying. Jenn HAS to pick Devin. HAS to. At the end of the conversation, Marcus tells Jenn that he knows that he loves her and wants to fight for it and give it a try. This is so toxic it’s ridiculous. Jenn needs a second and walks out, saying she’s sick of wasting time and energy for someone that doesn’t feel the same as her. Jenn breaks up with Marcus.
Back to the LA studios, with Marcus on the hot seat. He talks a bit about how his journey ended and his uncertainty in the whole thing before Jenn joins him on the hot seat. She says that the difference in her relationships with Devin and Marcus shined the light for her to end things with Marcus. She says that even if he had told her that he loved her sooner, it still would have ended. That wraps up the whole thing with them.
Now that leaves just Devin. He meets with Neil Lane to pick out the ring for his proposal. Meanwhile, Jenn talks to Jesse and says that she woke up that morning with a different perspective and tells him that she’s not going to let Devin propose to her and that she’s going to propose to him, to make a big gesture to show him how much he means to her.
Rather than seeing that proposal though, its right back to the studios as Jesse says that before we see that proposal, we have to hear from Jenn. A crying and very emotional Jenn joins Jesse on the hot seat. Jenn says that her and Devin left Hawaii engaged and very happy but as soon as they left, things were just different between them. She talks about how Devin broke up with her. It sucks, but I do get that when you get out of that bubble and actually have to live life, it happens. There’s a reason why barely any of these couples end up making it long after the show. When you’re in the perfect environment with nothing else but that bubble, it’s way different than how real life works.
Devin joins Jenn on the hot seat. She calls him out for breaking up their engagement over the phone, but then following Maria on Instagram the following day. I mean we’re talking about an Instagram follow here…who cares. Devin says he failed her and then she keeps questioning him. It didn’t work out, it is what it is at this point.
Now we get to see that engagement. Cute proposals by both of them, which is a pretty stark contrast for how their relationship ended.
Entertaining season, but not the best by any means. So much drama, stringing along week to week with guys that shouldn’t have been there. Good for Jenn for being the lead and finding the strength in herself at the end of all of this, but I didn’t love this season.
We finish off with a preview of Joan’s season as the very first The Golden Bachelorette, which I CANNOT wait for! She meets Kelsey’s dad as he comes out of the limo. Can’t wait. I loved The Golden Bachelor and think Joan’s going to be fantastic as the lead.
