NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 10/4/24

The puck drops on the NHL season this afternoon as the NHL Global Series in Prague starts the season with my Sabres heading overseas to face the New Jersey Devils. Let’s kick off the season with a win in a fun game!

Sabres vs. Devils (1:00)

Solid matchup at a neutral site for the first game of the season this afternoon with two young teams with new coaches. The Sabres had a disappointing year last year after showing a good amount of potential as the youngest team in the league two years ago. They missed the playoffs with a 39-37-6 record, taking a big step back offensively while improving defensively and in goal, as UPL was fantastic in the second half of the season. In the offseason, Buffalo brought back Lindy Ruff to try to capture that 2000s magic that captivated the city. The Devils were a disappointment last year, finishing the year 38-39-5. They got a new head coach, bringing in Sheldon Keefe. Their offense was good the last few years, with the goaltending and defense being a big issue. They made a huge upgrade in between the pipes, signing Jacob Markstrom. The Devils are a dark horse team for me this season. I think they’re going to have a great year and they’re a playoff team. I’m expecting my Sabres to be a bit of a disappointment again this year. I see them being improved but still missing the playoffs, right on the outside looking in. I like the Devils to win today and I’ll start the season taking them for half a unit, betting against my boys in a bit of an emotional hedge. I’d lean the over a bit but not enough to bet it in Game 1 of the year.

I’ll have my recap up of the game later!

Game Bets
