I went a perfect 4-0 on last night’s NHL slate, winning 2 units. Solid night. Today we have a huge 13 game slate today with a few day games to get it going. Let’s crush it!
Senators vs. Lightning (1:00)
Solid game to start the day off in the Eastern Conference. The Sens have been decent to start off the season, but Tampa’s still the far better team here, who have looked great through their 3-0 start. I like the Lightning to win this one on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit.
Predators vs. Red Wings (2:00)
Neither of these teams have been great to start their years. I have big expectations for the Preds with all their new pieces, but they’ve done nothing to impress me yet and look pretty disjointed. I thought the Red Wings would be better than they have been, but they’ve struggled a bit as well. I’d lean the Preds and the over here, but not enough to bet either. I’ll lay off this one.
Stars vs. Oilers (4:00)
This matchup was my preseason pick to be the Western Conference Finals as I expected both of these games to be very good. The Stars look it. They’re spectacular. The Oilers though have struggled. They’ve won their last two games, but I still think the Stars are playing better hockey and with the price at -125 at home I like that value, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Panthers vs. Golden Knights (6:00)
This is a great game that could be a preview of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Golden Knight are on fire this season and playing great hockey, enough so that I bet them to win the Cup. The Panthers are a very good team, but they’re struggling a little bit without Barkov and Tkachuk. I’ll jump on Vegas here for half a unit.
Maple Leafs vs. Rangers (7:00)
Great game here between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. I think the Rangers are the slightly better team, but with the Leafs at home this one’s a complete toss up. I’d slightly lean the over as well, but not enough to bet it.
Devils vs. Capitals (7:00)
The Devils have been very good so far this season and I expect them to be a force this year. The Caps started their season better than I expected them to, surprising me with wins against Vegas and Dallas. The Devils did already beat Washington on the road with a 5-3 win last week. I think Jersey’s the way better team here and I like them to win again at home. I’ll lay the -190 and take them for half a unit.
Islanders vs. Canadiens (7:00)
I don’t think either of these teams are great. I’ll stay off this matchup entirely. Complete toss up of a game that there’s no value in betting.
Flyers vs. Canucks (7:00)
Interesting matchup here. These teams played already this year with the Flyers winning 3-2 in a shootout on the road in Vancouver. I don’t think Philly’s a great team. Vancouver I think is underperforming and are the better team here that should win today. I’ll take the Canucks here for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not quite enough to bet it.
Blue Jackets vs. Wild (7:00)
This game isn’t great but it’s interesting for sure. The Blue Jackets have been slightly better than I thought they would be, especially since I thought they’d be the worst team in the East. Minnesota’s looked solid through their start to the season. I like them to win this one on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit.
Blues vs. Hurricanes (7:00)
Solid game here. The Blues have been off to a hot start to the year, although I think they’re a mid tier team. The Canes are solid out of the East, coming into today’s game in the second half of a back to back off an easy win for me against the Pens yesterday. If Carolina wasn’t in the second half of a back to back on the road, I’d take them here, but I think the right move is staying off this game completely.
Blackhawks vs. Sabres (8:00)
Horrible matchup. My Sabres have looked fucking terrible to start the season. They’re slow to get games going, their defense blows and their offense struggles to get anything going and then fall into a hole. The Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the league. I’d lean Buffalo gets a win here, but I’m not betting on my boys. I’d also lean the over, but I’ll lay off this game completely. Go Sabres.
Utah HC vs. Bruins (9:00)
This should be a fun game. Utah’s been off to a pretty good start to their year, especially offensively, but they come into tonight’s game off two straight losses, screwing me on Wednesday night from sweeping the board, giving up a pathetic tying goal and then losing in overtime to the Ducks. The Bruins have been a bit shaky, but they’re absolutely the better team here and should win on the road. Korpisalo started their last game, so I completely expect Swayman in net tonight. I’ll take Boston for half a unit. I also like the over here, which I’ll take for half a unit as well.
Kraken vs. Flames (10:00)
Both of these teams I didn’t expect to be good this year, but they’re both playing better than I expected, especially the Flames, who are 4-0. I’d slightly lean Calgary wins this one on the road, and I do see some value in them as a dog, but I’m not betting them. I do like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
