I took last night’s only game off, but tonight we’re back and we have a huge Frozen Frenzy, with every team in the NHL in action and staggered starts for a great night of hockey! Let’s crush it!!
Flyers vs. Capitals (6:00)
This isn’t the best matchup to get this frenzy started for the first half of a back to back home and home. I don’t think either of these teams are really playoff teams. The Flyers have started off pretty much just as I expected them to, but the Caps have been impressive in their 3-0 start, rattling off wins against Vegas, Dallas, and Jersey, all teams I expect to be very good this year. I might be walking into a trap a little bit here, but I like Washington to win this one as a slight dog on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. If they lose, I’ll likely double down on them tomorrow at home.
Wild vs. Panthers (6:30)
Pretty good matchup here as both of these teams have had solid starts to their season. The Panthers should get Matthew Tkachuk back in the lineup tonight, and I think that gives the Cup Champs an edge to get the win here on the road. I’ll take Florida for half a unit.
Lightning vs. Devils (6:45)
Great matchup here with both of these teams playing great hockey to start the year off. The Lightning were one of just two teams in action last night, taking a 5-2 loss in Toronto. With Tampa in the second half of a back to back, I’d lean the Devils win this one on the road, but not enough to bet it. I do like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Sabres vs. Stars (7:00)
This is a huge mismatch. The Stars are an elite team that I expect to go to the Western Conference Finals again. My Sabres on the other hand are a pretty terrible team. I’ll bet against my boys and take Dallas for a unit. I’d slightly lean the under but I’m not betting that.
Canadiens vs. Rangers (7:15)
Another big mismatch in the Eastern Conference for this game. The Rangers are the far better team here, and haven’t lost in regulation yet this season. New York should easily win on the road and I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit.
Blue Jackets vs. Maple Leafs (7:30)
This one’s another big mismatch. The Blue Jackets have looked a little better than I expected them to, but Toronto’s the far better team here. They should win on the road, but the play I like better on this one is their team total over 3.5, which I’ll take for half a unit. I’ll also take them in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the over on the game but not enough to bet it.
Islanders vs. Red Wings (7:45)
I’m not really convinced on either team in this matchup. I’d slightly lean the Red Wings are the better team, but I don’t see any value in betting anything on this game. I’ll lay off it completely.
Blues vs. Jets (8:00)
Both of these teams have started their seasons better than I thought they would. The Blues are 4-2, coming off a solid 4-3 win over Carolina. The Jets are even more impressive at 5-0. I think Winnipeg’s the better team here and I’ll take them for half a unit to win on the road.
Blackhawks vs. Canucks (8:15)
The Canucks started their season a bit slow, but coming into tonight’s game now off two wins in a row. The Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the NHL and Vancouver should win this one relatively easy on the road. I’ll lay the -185 and take them for half a unit.
Kraken vs. Avalanche (8:30)
This is an interesting matchup with the way both of these teams come into this game. The Kraken have been off to a pretty good 4-2 start to the season and have exceeded my expectations a bit. The Avs on the other hand are just 2-4 after beating the two lousy California teams. I’d lean Colorado wins here as the far more talented team, but I don’t trust their defense enough to bet them (although the price is fair). I like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Predators vs. Bruins (8:45)
This is a great game, but I feel like it’s a complete toss up here. Nashville’s been disappointing in their 0-5 start to the season when I had pretty big expectations for them going into the season. The Bruins have been decent when Swayman’s in goal, which he’s projected to be. I’d slightly lean the over in this game, but I feel like the best move is staying off this game entirely.
Oilers vs. Hurricanes (9:00)
These two teams both went into the season expecting to be very good. They’ve both been a bit disappointing though as the Oilers are 2-4 and the Canes are 2-2. Going into the year, the Oilers were my pick to win the Stanley Cup. They sure don’t look like that though. I’d slightly lean the Hurricanes win this one on the road, but not enough to bet on it. I’ll lay off this game.
Utah HC vs. Senators (9:15)
I don’t think either of these teams are great but this should be a really fun game with the way that both of these teams have started their season. I think its a toss up, which the -110 price makes sense on. I do like the over quite a bit though, which I’ll take for a unit.
Flames vs. Penguins (9:30)
This should be a pretty fun game. The Flames are off to a surprisingly great start to the season. They haven’t lost in regulation yet in their 4-0-1 start, coming off a 2-1 overtime loss in Seattle on Saturday. The Pens haven’t been all that great, with a 3-4 record. I think Calgary’s over performing and although I’d lean they win this one, and I’d slightly lean the over, I think the better move is just staying off this game.
Ducks vs. Sharks (10:15)
Terrible California rivalry matchup here. Both of these teams blow. The Sharks are one of the worst teams in the league, not having won a game in regulation. The Ducks aren’t quite as terrible and already won the first game between these teams 2-0 on the road. I like Anaheim to win here at home and I’ll take them for half a unit.
Golden Knights vs. Kings (11:00)
These are two solid teams coming into this game on opposite streaks. The Golden Knights had a great start to the season and looked fantastic. I bet them to win the Cup. They’ve since gone on a three game losing skid. The Kings on the other hand started a bit slow but come in off two road wins against lousy teams. Vegas is the better team here, I like them to win at home in the Fortress to end their three game losing streak and I’ll take them for half a unit.
Bonus
With this giant slate, I’m also adding two fun plays. First, I’ll take the total goals for the day over 99.5. This isn’t great value, but its a fun one that we don’t get to bet often, so I’ll take it for half a unit. I’ll also go with the following parlay for .2 units:
Devils/Lightning over 5.5, Stars ML, Rangers ML, Maple Leafs ML, Canucks ML, Avalanche/Kraken over 5.5, Utah/Senators over 5.5
