I’m on a three day win streak on the NHL, going 2-1 last night to win .9 units. Tonight we have a pretty big Monday night slate with eight games. Let’s keep on winning!
Sabres vs. Panthers (7:00)
My Sabres are coming into this game hot, on a three game win streak after a really solid 5-3 win at home against the Red Wings on Saturday afternoon. This isn’t a great matchup for them though. Buffalo surprisingly won the first game between these teams 5-2 at home, but I don’t see that happening again. The Cup Champs are the far better team here, and I’ll bet against my Sabres tonight and take Florida for a unit, at a price that’s far cheaper than it should be. I like the over here as well, which I’ll also take for half a unit.
Blue Jackets vs. Oilers (7:00)
Pretty big mismatch in this cross conference matchup tonight. The Oilers are in the second half of a back to back on the road, coming off a 3-2 OT win in Detroit last night. They should win this game on the road, as the Blue Jackets aren’t a great team, but they’ve been staying in games and been a pain in the ass for teams to play against. I don’t think the -240 is worth betting on Edmonton and I don’t love the idea of buying them down to regulation only. I’d also lean the over, but the better move here is staying off this game.
Lightning vs. Predators (7:30)
Really fun cross conference matchup here as Steven Stamkos makes his return to Tampa for the first time as a member of the Nashville Predators. This should be a solid game between two good teams. The Bolts are playing solid hockey and the Preds after their lousy start to the season now come into tonight’s game on a three game win streak. I’d lean the Lightning win this one at home and would lean the over, but not enough to bet either. I do like Stammer to pick up a point in his return to what will be an emotional night in Tampa and I’ll take that prop for half a unit.
Jets vs. Maple Leafs (7:30)
This should be a fantastic cross conference matchup despite the difference in how these teams are coming into this game. The Jets are the hottest team in the NHL with a perfect 8-0 start to the year. The Leafs haven’t been all that great and come into tonight’s game with just one win in their last five games. Winnipeg should win this game at home and keep the win streak going, but for some reason this seems like a game where Toronto comes out and gets a win to end that run for the Jets. I’d lean the over as well, but I’ll lay off this game completely.
Avalanche vs. Blackhawks (9:00)
Terrible cross conference matchup here. The Avalanche after their lousy 0-4 start to the season are rolling now, on a five game win streak, coming off a 5-4 win against the Sens last night. The Blackhawks on the other hand are one of the worst teams in the NHL and come into tonight on a four game losing streak. Even in the second half of a back to back, Colorado should win this one at home. I’ll take the Avs in regulation and their team total over 3.5 for half a unit each.
Utah HC vs. Sharks (9:00)
Pretty lousy matchup here. I don’t think Utah’s all that great of a team and they’re on a skid right now with just one win in their last five games after their solid start to the season. The Sharks though are easily the worst team in the league and pretty much an auto bet against them every game. I’ll take Utah in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Canucks vs. Hurricanes (10:00)
Pretty solid cross conference matchup here. Both of these teams come into tonight hot, with the Canucks on a four game run and the Canes on a three game win streak. I think Carolina’s the better team here and I’d lean they win this game on the road, but not enough to bet it. I’ll lay off this one entirely.
Golden Knights vs. Flames (10:00)
Fun game out in the Pacific to start off the night. I think the Golden Knights are a spectacular team and they’re my pick to win the Cup this season. They come into tonight’s game on a three game win streak. The Flames started the season really well but now have just one win (in a shootout against the Pens) in their last four games, and I’m still not convinced they’re a good team. I like Vegas to win here and I’ll take them for a unit at home. I also like the over here, which I’ll take at the alternate line of 6 for half a unit.
