I lost a unit last night on the NHL going 2-2. Not great with a losing effort from Vegas. Tonight we have a seven game Halloween slate. Let’s cash in!
Maple Leafs vs. Kraken (7:00)
I’d expect this to be a pretty entertaining game. The Leafs haven’t been great to start the season. On Tuesday they ended a three game losings streak with a big 6-4 win in Winnipeg, giving the Jets their first loss of the season. The Kraken are coming off a big win on Tuesday as well, having hung eight goals on Montreal to end a three game losing streak of their own. I think Toronto’s the better team here, but I don’t trust them enough to bet on at the price with the moneyline all the way at -210. I do like the over here though which I’ll take for half a unit.
Flyers vs. Blues (7:00)
This is kind of a lousy matchup. The Flyers, who are coming off a surprising 2-0 shutout win against the Bruins on Tuesday are a bottom five team in the NHL in my eyes. The Blues started the season hot but have just one win in their last four games and are coming off getting blown out 8-1 in Ottawa on Tuesday. I think St. Louis is the better team here and I like them to win as a dog on the road. I’ll take the Blues for half a unit. I like the over too, which I’ll take at the alternate 5.5 line for half a unit as well.
Penguins vs. Ducks (7:00)
This is a pretty boring matchup between two lousy teams. The Penguins have looked awful so far this season in their 3-7-1 start. Coming off losing 5-3 at home to the Wild in Marc-Andre Fleury’s goodbye to Pittsburgh, the Pens are now on a six game losing streak. The Ducks, coming off a 3-1 win against the Isles on Tuesday, aren’t a great team either. Pittsburgh should win this one at home, but no chance I’m trusting them at -175. I’ll lay off this game completely.
Capitals vs. Canadiens (7:00)
I didn’t think the Capitals would be all that great this year, but they’re playing fantastic hockey to start off the season 6-2, coming off an impressive 5-3 win over the Rangers with Ovi scoring twice. The Habs have struggled, especially defensively as they just gave up eight goals to the Kraken on Tuesday. I like the Caps to win this one pretty easily and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit.
Hurricanes vs. Bruins (7:00)
Fun Eastern Conference matchup here. The Hurricanes have looked great so far this year. They’re on a four game win streak after a 4-3 overtime win against the Canucks on the road on Monday and 6-2 to start the year. The Bruins, who just got shut out 2-0 at home by the Flyers, have looked like garbage so far this season. I like Carolina to win here and I’ll lay the -175 on them for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the under, but I’m not betting it.
Predators vs. Oilers (8:00)
This game should be pretty interesting out West. Both of these teams have been very disappointing to start the year after big expectations for them going into the season. The Preds after their lousy start have been playing much better recently, on a four game point streak coming off a 3-2 overtime loss in Tampa on Monday. The Oilers on the other hand haven’t looked much better. They’re coming off getting blown out 6-1 in Columbus and things don’t look to be getting any better for them as they’ll be without the best player in the world for the next few weeks as Connor McDavid’s out injured. I like Smashville to win here at home and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under but not enough to bet it.
Sharks vs. Blackhawks (10:30)
Horrible matchup here between the worst two teams in the NHL. The Sharks after starting the season with nine straight losses have somehow won their last two in a row, shockingly beating the Kings 4-2 on Tuesday night to lose my biggest play of the year so far. The Blackhawks just ended their own four game losing streak with a surprising 5-2 win in Colorado on Monday. I’d lean Chicago’s the slightly better team here and gets the win on the road and I’d slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet either. I’ll lay off this game completely.
