I had another losing night on the NHL yesterday, going 2-4 to lose 0.87 units. Today we have a six game slate starting with an early Global Series game this afternoon. Let’s bounce back and win!
Stars vs. Panthers (2:00)
The NHL starts the day in Finland with a great matchup between two Cup contenders in the Panthers and Stars for this cross conference game. Both of these teams are playing great right now. I think this game’s a complete toss up both on the side and the total. I’ll lay off it completely.
Sabres vs. Islanders (7:00)
Interesting matchup tonight for my Sabres here as I don’t think either of these teams are good. We’re coming off a 5-2 loss to the Panthers at home, which was pretty much as I expected on Monday night (a double winner for me), ending a three game win streak. I don’t think we’re a great team and likely will once again miss the playoffs this year. The Islanders have been pretty terrible as well in their 3-5-2 start to the season. Coming off a 2-0 shutout loss in Columbus on Wednesday, they’re on a three game losing streak. I’d slightly lean the Sabres win tonight at home but I don’t trust it enough to bet it. Let’s go Buffalo!
Rangers vs. Senators (7:00)
Going into the season I would’ve thought this would be a pretty lousy matchup but with how well the Sens have started the year, this game has the potential to be pretty fun. They’re coming off completely shit pumping the Blues with an 8-1 win, bouncing back to losses in Colorado and Vegas and their offense has been quite impressive this year. The Rangers, who are coming off a 5-3 loss in Washington on Tuesday (solid game there), have been very good this year. I still think the Rags are the better team here and I like them to bounce back with a win at home tonight. I’ll lay the juice on them for half an hour unit. I’d lean the over in this game, but not enough to bet it with Shesterkin in goal and the fantastic defense for New York.
Blue Jackets vs. Jets (7:00)
Although the Blue Jackets have played far better than I expected them to, I still don’t think this is a great matchup. I thought Columbus was gonna be one of the three worst teams in the league (along with the Sharks and Blackhawks). Coming off a 2-0 shutout win against the Isles on Wednesday, they’re on a four game win streak with three wins in that span and not just against lousy teams, they’re hanging in there and being a pain in the ass for teams to face. The Jets have far exceeded my expectations too. I thought they’d be a playoff team, but would not have guessed they’d look like the best team in the NHL. They’re 9-1 on the season, bouncing back from their first loss with a solid 6-2 win in Detroit on Wednesday. I like Winnipeg to win here and I’ll take them for a unit. I like the over too, which I’ll take at the alternate line of 6 for half a unit.
Wild vs. Lightning (8:00)
Great cross conference matchup here in Minnesota tonight as both of these teams have played fantastic hockey this year. The Wild won the first game between these teams about a week ago, winning 4-2 on the road in Tampa. I feel like this game’s pretty close to a toss up and I’d slightly lean the Bolts win this one on the road to even the season series, but not enough to bet on it. I’d lean the over and really considered betting on it, but I think the better move here is laying off this game completely.
Flames vs. Devils (9:00)
Interesting cross conference matchup to close out the night. The Flames had a hot 5-0-1 start to their season, but they’ve since lost their last four games in a row, none particularly close as they’re coming off an embarrassing 5-1 loss in Utah on Wednesday. The Devils after their hot start to the season went on a lousy run but they seem to have gotten right again, winning their last two games in high scoring fashion, shutting out the Canucks 6-0 on the road in the Hughes bowl on Wednesday night after blowing out the Ducks 6-2 on Sunday in a no brainer bet of a game. I like Jersey to win here on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit.
