Nice profitable night for me on the NHL yesterday, going 3-1 to win 1.14 units. Today we have an eleven game slate with plenty of early starts. Let’s stack up some wins again!!
Panthers vs. Stars (12:00)
The Global Series continues in Finland with the second half of a back to back between the Panthers and the Stars. Yesterday afternoon in the first game between them, the Stars made a late push with two goals in the last five minutes, but still came up short in a 6-2 loss. Just as I said yesterday, I feel like the side in this game is a complete toss up. I do like the over today though, which I’ll take at 6 for half a unit.
Flyers vs. Bruins (1:00)
This Eastern Conference game isn’t great. The Flyers stink but come into today’s game off two wins in a row, including a 2-0 shutout win on the road against Bruins on Tuesday in the first game between these teams. The Bruins are struggling right now with a 4-6-1 record as well and just one win in their last six games. Boston’s the far better team here though and I like them to win on the road. I’ll take the B’s for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Kings vs. Blackhawks (4:00)
This game isn’t great by any means. The Blackhawks, coming off a 3-2 loss in San Jose on Thursday night against the worst team in the league are right there with the Sharks in the basement of the league. Team stinks. The Kings are a talented team, but they also lost to the Sharks earlier this week so it’s tough to trust them. I watched that whole game and they seemed to play so lazy in that loss. But then followed it up with an impressive 6-3 win against the Golden Knights. I like LA to get a win here at home and I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit.
Capitals vs. Blue Jackets (5:00)
This should be a fun matchup between two teams that have exceeded my expectations coming into the season. The Capitals have looked spectacular, especially offensively to start the year, coming into tonight with an impressive 7-2 record. The Blue Jackets have been playing much better than I thought they would be this year. I thought Columbus was gonna be one of the three worst teams in the league (along with the Sharks and Blackhawks) but they’ve been a pain in the ass for teams to play against. They’re in the second half of a back to back this evening, coming off a 6-2 loss last night against the Jets (double winner for me) that ended a four game point streak for them. The Caps are the better team here and I like Washington to win this one at home. I’ll take them for a unit in regulation, along with half a unit each on their team total over 3.5 and the over on the game.
Red Wings vs. Sabres (7:00)
This Atlantic Division matchup isn’t great. Last night my Sabres played a pretty sloppy game, ultimately losing a close one 4-3 to the Islanders. We haven’t been great this season on either end of the ice and this team’s missing the playoffs again. The Red Wings haven’t been any better and come into tonight on a three game losing streak after a 6-2 loss to the Jets on Wednesday night. These teams already met once this season as the Sabres put together a fantastic 5-3 win at home last Saturday afternoon. With Buffalo in the second half of a back to back, I’d slightly lean the Red Wings win this one at home to answer back from that first loss in Buffalo, but not enough to bet it. I do like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Senators vs. Kraken (7:00)
This game should be fun. The Senators have been a solid team as they’re .500 to start the season and their offense has been spectacular. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 2-1 loss in MSG last night and have just one win in their last four games. The Kraken started their season well too, but have since won just one of their last five games. I’d lean the Sens win this one at home to bounce back from last night’s loss, but not enough to bet it. I do like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Penguins vs. Canadiens (7:00)
Pretty terrible game here as both of these teams have struggled this season and can’t keep the puck out of their own net. I feel like the Penguins are the better team here, but they’ve played horrible hockey and are no way worth the -185. With both of these teams giving up over four goals on average per game, I love the over here, which I’ll take for a unit.
Blues vs. Maple Leafs (7:00)
This cross conference matchup should be pretty fun. The Blues are struggling right now after a solid start to the season. Coming off a 2-1 loss in Philly on Thursday, they’re on a three game losing streak. The Leafs struggled to start the season but now come into tonight off two wins in a row after a 4-1 win at home against the Kraken on Thursday. In the first game between these teams this season a week ago, the Blues won 5-1 on the road. I’d expect Toronto to answer back with a win here on the road, but I don’t trust the Leafs enough to lay the -200 here. I like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Predators vs. Avalanche (8:00)
Really fun game here between two teams that should both make the playoffs, but haven’t played great this season. The Predators, who have a lot of new pieces this season, started the year terribly, then went on a solid run, and now come into tonight off two losses in a row, having gotten blown out 5-1 by the McDavid-less Oilers on Thursday. The Avs are coming in off two losses in a row having lost 5-2 to both the Lightning and Blackhawks and haven’t been great this year either, especially defensively. I’d lean Smashville wins here as well and I’d lean the over, but the best play on this game is nothing at all. I’ll stay off it completely.
Golden Knights vs. Utah HC (10:00)
Not the best matchup here. The Golden Knights I think are the best team in the NHL, but disappointed me on Wednesday night with a 6-2 loss to the Kings, who were in the second half of a back to back that night, ending a four game win streak. They’re a perfect 7-0 at home this year. Utah started their season hot, but they’ve been quite lousy lately, just ending a four game losing streak with a 5-1 with at home against the Flames on Wednesday. I like Vegas to keep their home win streak going here and I’ll take them for a unit. I also like the over, and I’ll take the alternate line at 6 for half a unit.
Sharks vs. Canucks (10:00)
Pretty terrible matchup in the Pacific to close out the night. Somehow the Sharks are on a shocking three game win streak, coming off a 3-2 win against the Blackhawks on Thursday night after beating the Kings and Utah. But this is still the worst team in the NHL. The Canucks have been a mid tier team so far this year, and after a four game win streak and five game point streak, they come off a 6-0 shutout loss in the Hughes bowl on Wednesday night at home, their second loss in a row. They should bounce back here with a win on the road. I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
