Brutal night of hockey for me last night, going 3-7-1 on the NHL, losing 4.75 units. Tonight we have just a three game slate, let’s bounce back here!
Capitals vs. Predators (7:00)
Kind of an interesting matchup between these two cross conference teams that have started their seasons in the opposite ways I expected. I didn’t think the Capitals would be good this year, but they’re off to a great start, especially offensively. They’re coming off a 4-2 loss in Carolina on Sunday, ending a three game win streak. The Preds on the other hand, who made a ton of changes in the offseason, I expected to be very good and instead they’ve been quite disappointing. Coming off a 3-0 shutout loss at home to the Kings on Monday, they have just one win in their last four games. I like the Capitals to bounce back here at home and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Blackhawks vs. Red Wings (8:00)
Pretty lousy cross conference rivalry matchup here as Patrick Kane and his Red Wings return to Chicago. The Blackhawks I still think are one of the worst teams in the NHL, but coming off a 4-2 win in Anaheim on Sunday, they have three wins in their last four games and haven’t been terrible lately. The Red Wings are coming off a 2-1 win at home against my Sabres on Saturday, ending a three game losing streak and have been pretty lousy this season. I’d lean Detroit wins here on the road, but I don’t trust them enough to bet them. I’d slightly lean the under, but definitely am not betting it. I do like Patty Kane to record a point against the franchise he used to be the face of in the city he won three Stanley Cups and I’ll take it for half a unit. He has eight points in Detroit’s eleven games this season and I think that price is worth taking. I cashed my first player prop this season so easily when Stamkos went back to Tampa, let’s cash this one just as easily.
Oilers vs. Golden Knights (8:30)
Fun Pacific Division matchup to close out the “knight” between my preseason pick to win the Cup and my current pick to win the Cup, and I can’t wait to watch this one. The Oilers had a horrible start to the season, and although they’re coming off a 3-0 shutout loss to the Devils on Monday, they have four wins in their last six games. Connor McDavid’s back in the lineup tonight which obviously gives them a huge boost with the best player in the world on the ice, especially with the struggles that Edmonton’s had offensively this season. The Golden Knights have been spectacular this season with five wins in their last six games, coming off a nice 4-3 overtime win against Utah on Brett Howden’s beautiful game winner. I like Vegas to win this one on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit at + money. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
