NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 11/18/24

I was a perfect 2-0 on the NHL last night for my third winning night in a row. Tonight we have a six game slate, let’s keep rolling!

Bruins vs. Blue Jackets (7:00)

Kind of a lousy matchup in the East. The Bruins, coming off a 3-2 overtime loss on Saturday, have been very inconsistent this season and have especially struggled defensively. The Blue Jackets have been horrendous. They’ve picked up just one win in their last eight games, coming off a 5-1 loss in Montreal on Saturday. The Bruins should win this game and I’d lean the over as well, but they’ve been way too inconsistent to bet at the -192. I’ll lay off this game.

Flyers vs. Avalanche (7:00)

This cross conference game isn’t great, but it’s an interesting one. The Flyers are somehow rolling lately. Although I still think they’re a lousy team, they’re on a three game win streak and five game points streak, coming off a 5-2 win against my Sabres on Saturday. The Avalanche have been inconsistent as well, and they are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Capitals on Friday that ended their three game win streak. Similar to that Bruins/Blue Jackets game, the Avs should win this game, but they’re not worth betting on at -198 or limiting it to regulation only. I like the over in this game though, which I’ll take at 6 for half a unit.

Canadiens vs. Oilers (7:30)

Terrible mismatch in this cross conference Canadian matchup. Montreal stinks. Although they’re coming off a 5-1 win against Columbus on Saturday, this is one of the worst teams in the NHL at 6-10-2 and they have just two wins in their last nine games. The Oilers have been playing a lot better as of late, on a four game point streak, coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Toronto on Saturday that ended their three game win streak. I like Edmonton to win this game, likely with ease in a higher scoring game, but the play I like the best here is the Oilers team total over 3.5, which I’ll take for half a unit.

Stars vs. Ducks (8:00)

On a slate with a bunch of big mismatches, this is by far the biggest one, as evidenced by the -450 moneyline. The Stars have been fantastic, extending their win streak to three straight off a 2-1 win in Minnesota on Saturday. The Ducks, who are coming off a 6-4 win against Detroit (my only loss on Friday), have still been one of the worst teams in the NHL. This should be a cake walk for Dallas at home and I’ll take them on the puck line for a unit. I’d lean the over, and considered the Stars team total, but I think just sticking with the -1.5 is the best move here.

Utah HC vs. Capitals (9:00)

Fun game here. Utah isn’t great. They’re 7-7-3 and have been pretty lousy, with just three wins in their last eleven games, coming off a 4-2 loss against Vegas at home on Friday (win for me) after getting a shocking 4-1 win against Carolina on Wednesday for a big loss for me. Alex Ovechkin and his Capitals are rolling this season, far exceeding my expectations for them going into the season. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 5-2 win in Vegas last night led by Ovi’s hat trick to get him just 29 goals away from Gretzky’s record, while he leads the NHL in scoring this season. This team’s playing spectacular hockey, and even in the second half of a back to back on the road, I like them to get the win here and I’ll take them for half a unit at a nice price.

Sharks vs. Red Wings (10:30)

Shitty cross conference game between two lousy teams to finish the night. Both of these teams are bad. The Sharks, who are on a three game losing streak after a 4-3 shootout loss on Saturday in Pittsburgh, have been one of the worst teams in the NHL. The Red Wings have been quite disappointing, coming into tonight with just one win in their last five games, coming off a 4-1 loss in LA on Saturday night. Detroit’s the better team here and should win on the road, and I’d lean the over, but I’m not touching this game.
