Sabres @ Kings: 11/20/24 – Game Reactions/Recap

I missed the last two Sabres games, but I’m back tonight as Sabres After Dark returned in LA with a boring, yet very good, 1-0 shutout win for Buffalo against the Kings.

I thought the Sabres played solid hockey in the first period despite us going to the first intermission tied up at 0-0. We outshot the Kings 9-7 and had some nice scoring chances, while UPL looked good, making some key saves in a lot of the quality chances that LA had. Although we didn’t find the back of the net, we had a lot of good sustained zone pressure and did a good job as well at going to rebounds. The Kings played better in the second, as Buffalo got a bit sloppier, but we were still tied in a scoreless game. Luukkonen was very good on the big chances that the Sabres defense gave up in the second to keep us in this game.

After a very boring first two periods of this game, Jason Zucker got the first goal of the game just 38 seconds into the third, tipping in a Dahlin shot to put Buffalo up 1-0 and break the double shutout for his 200th career goal. The Sabres survived almost two minutes of sustained zone time with some nice chance by the Kings with the net empty to end the game, but with a few misses from LA and some nice saves from UPL, we get a big 1-0 shutout win for Buffalo.

FINAL: Sabres 1, Kings 0

Very good win although this one was a grind to watch till 1:05 in the morning. We were outshot 24-19, but with a fantastic performance in goal from Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Jason Zucker’s power play goal, we get the win out West.
