Brutal night for me on the NHL yesterday, going 1-6 with a bunch of upsets to lose 6 units. Just two games tonight, let bounce back here as I have my biggest game of the year.
Penguins vs. Jets (7:00)
This isn’t a great cross conference matchup to start off the night. The Penguins have sucked this season, to the point that I almost feel bad for Crosby being stuck here. Coming off a 3-2 overtime loss at home to Tampa on Tuesday where they blew a 2-0 early lead, the Pens have just one win in their last five games and only four in their last 16 games. They’ve struggled mightily on both ends of the ice. The Jets on the other hand are the best team in the league so far this season with a 16-3 record and playing incredible on both ends of the ice. After losses in Tampa and to the Panthers on the road, they bounced back on Tuesday with a big 6-3 win at home against Florida in the second half of the home and home. Winnipeg won the first game between these teams 6-3 at home and I expect another easy win for them here again tonight. I’ll take them for 2 units here along with a unit on the puck line and their team total over 3.5 for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but I’ll just stick with the Jets here in my biggest game of the year. Note, I locked in these plays last night and they’ve since moved to the Jets around -175. I still like that, but would probably scale it down slightly to around 1.5 units for a similar cost.
Ducks vs. Sabres (10:00)
For anyone outside of Buffalo this is such a boring matchup. The Ducks are one of the worst teams in the league, but they’re playing solid hockey right now, with four wins in their last five games as they come into tonight on a three game win streak after a 3-2 win in Chicago on Tuesday. My Sabres are coming off a big 1-0 shutout win in LA on Wednesday and we have five wins in our last seven. We’ve been inconsistent this year but I like Buffalo to get another win on the road here and I’ll take my boys for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
