I started off hot but finished last night’s NHL slate 5-5, losing 1.45 units. Today we have a five game slate going up against the NFL with some lousy matchups, so let’s find a spot to bounce back!
Red Wings vs. Canucks (12:30)
Not a great game to start off today’s slate as both of these teams have been pretty inconsistent. Coming off a 5-4 loss at home against the Devils on Friday, the Red Wings have three wins in their last five games. The Canucks are coming off a 4-3 overtime win in Buffalo on Friday and have three wins in their last four as well. I like Vancouver to win here on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit with a much more high powered offense. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Bruins vs. Canadiens (3:00)
This is such a boring Atlantic Division matchup. The Bruins have been under achieving all season. They’re just 11-11-3, and coming off a 2-1 loss at home to the Penguins, they’ve won three of their last five (also just three of their last eight). Their offense has been terrible. The Habs, as expected are at the bottom of the Atlantic. They’re in the second half of a back to back today after a 4-3 loss in MSG against the Rangers yesterday. I like the B’s to win this one at home and I’ll take Boston in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the under here but I’m not touching it since Montreal stinks defensively.
Blackhawks vs. Blue Jackets (3:00)
Terrible cross conference matchup. Neither of these teams are good. The Blackhawks, coming off a 3-2 loss in Minnesota on Friday afternoon are at the bottom of the Central Division and have just two wins in their last seven games. Although their defense hasn’t been awful, their offense is one of the worst in the NHL. The Blue Jackets are just 10-9-3 and the worst team in the Metro, but they have over exceeded expectations this year. They come into today on a five game point streak with four wins in that span, coming off a 5-2 win at home against the Flames on Friday. In the opposite fashion of Chicago, their offense has been good but their defense has struggled. I’d lean Columbus wins here on the road and the over, but this is a game that the best bet is staying off it completely.
Stars vs. Jets (4:30)
This is a fantastic Central Division matchup. The Stars are playing good hockey lately, coming off a 5-3 win in a big game at home against the Avalanche on Friday, bouncing back from two losses on the road. Winnipeg started the season as the best team in the league, but they’re on their worst stretch of hockey this season right now with just one win in their last four games, coming off losses on the road 4-3 in Vegas on Friday and 4-1 in LA on Wednesday. Both of these teams have been very good on both ends of the ice. In the first game between these teams this year, the Jets won 4-1 at home on November 9th. I’d very slightly lean Dallas wins this one at home and the over, but I’m staying off this game entirely.
Ducks vs. Senators (8:00)
Pretty lousy cross conference nightcap. Both of these teams have been pretty bad. The Ducks are horrible, coming off a 2-1 loss at home to the Kings on Friday and just one win in their last four games. The Sens aren’t any better, with only two wins in their last eight games. They’re coming off a loss to LA as well, 5-2 on the road last night, giving up four unanswered goals. I still think Ottawa’s the better team here and I’d lean they win here to bounce back on the road, but I don’t think they’re worth the -165. The total is a complete toss up to me. Not touching this game.
