Sabres vs. Jets: 11/5/24 – Game Reactions/Recap

Tonight the Sabres put up a solid effort but lost again, this time 3-2 in overtime at home against the Jets.

The Sabres scored first again early tonight, as Tage Thompson snapped a nice wrist shot on the power play from the right circle to put the Sabres up 1-0, 3:27 into the game. The Jets answered back though just 47 seconds later as Hayden Fleury scored on a strange play that beat UPL glove side to tie up the game. Lindy challenged the goal, but the challenge failed, making the goal count and put us a man down. Buffalo took the lead back with 8:31 left in the first’s Dylan Cozens tipped the puck five hole past Hellebuyck after a beautifully placed pass from Zach Benson. Pretty good first period.

The Jets tied the game up at 2 a piece 3:06 into the second as Kyle Connor’s shot in front got past Luukkonen after he made the initial save on the shot. With 2:24 left in the second period, Tyson Kozak picked up the first goal of his NHL career, cashing in on a rebound to give the Sabres a 3-2 lead, but after review for goaltender interference, it was determined to not be a goal and took the kid’s first goal off the board. Not too bad of a period. The Sabres played competitive hockey, had some good chances and kept the game tied.

After a competitive, scoreless third period, onto overtime as the Sabres pick up at least a point.

After a great save by UPL, on the second effort off the rebound, Adam Lowry ended it with his overtime winner for the Jets, making it a 3-2 Winnipeg win.

FINAL: Sabres 2, Jets 3 (OT)

That recap video became a whole rant on the state of the franchise.

I bet the Jets tonight, so I’m not really surprised that Winnipeg won this one, but I did think Buffalo played well. A few young call ups from Rochester played solid hockey and we took the top team in the NHL standings to overtime, but that’s still another loss and we extend the losing streak to five games in a row. And yeah we got a point, but at the end of the day, it’s still a loss.

Every night of watching this team feels like the scene from Bruce Almighty where he watches John Murphy talk about how the Sabres “lost again last night, this time at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs” and all disappointed he turns off the TV and says “that’s my team”…well that’s my team, perpetual fucking losers. This team just can’t win.

Can’t wait to see what Kevyn Adams has to say in his press conference tomorrow after having the team not be available to the media yesterday following the meltdown against Colorado. Other than him firing himself since he can’t bring in any players that can make this team a contender or Terry Pegula coming in and saying he’s selling the team since since he’s become the owner this team hasn’t made the playoffs, I’m sure I won’t be thrilled. It’s just gonna be the same shit we’ve heard for the last 14 years of this pathetic bullshit. This fucking team.
