Another nice winning day for me on the NHL last night, continuing to crush it as I went 4-3 to win 1.76 units. Today we have another big eleven game slate, let’s keep rolling!
Sabres vs. Utah Hockey Club (1:00)
Not the best game to start the day. My Sabres are on a five game losing streak right now after a hot run, coming off a good effort in a loss, losing 3-2 in overtime at home to the Jets on Thursday after a complete collapse to lose 5-4 to the Avs on Tuesday. Utah isn’t much better, but have been playing okay lately with three wins in their last six (and nine) games, coming off a 2-1 loss at home to the Stars on Monday. Buffalo should win this game at home today, and I’d lean the over, but I’m not touching this game. Let’s go Sabres.
Bruins vs. Flyers (1:00)
Interesting Eastern Conference matchup here as neither of these teams have been good, but have both played pretty well lately. The Bruins seem to have new life since firing Jim Montgomery, coming into today’s game on a three game win streak with six wins in their last eight games, coming off a 4-2 win in Chicago on Wednesday. The Flyers are coming off a 7-5 loss to the Panthers on Thursday that ended a three game win streak and five game point streak. They have an 8-3-2 record in their last 13 games. Both previous games between these teams were shutouts with the Flyers winning 2-0 on the road in October and the Bruins answering back with a 3-0 shutout in Philly a few days later. I’d lean the B’s win this one at home today, but not enough to bet it. I do like the under though, which I’ll take at the alternate 6 line for half a unit.
Blackhawks vs. Jets (4:00)
Pretty terrible Central Division matchup here. The Blackhawks have been horrible this season. They just fired head coach Luke Richardson on Thursday and come into this afternoon’s game on a four game losing streak with just two wins in their last ten games off a 4-2 loss at home against the Bruins on Wednesday. The Jets were the best team in the NHL to start the season, but were on a lousy four game losing streak that they ended on Thursday with a 3-2 overtime win in Buffalo. Winnipeg needed overtime to win their first game against Chicago this season, 2-1. I like them to win again here on the road and I’ll lay the -185 on them for a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Islanders vs. Hurricanes (5:00)
Lousy mismatch for this Metro Division matchup. The Islanders blow. They have just two wins in their last ten games, coming off a 5-2 loss at home against the Kraken on Thursday. The Hurricanes are a solid team and ended a three game losing streak with a 5-3 win at home against the Avalanche on Thursday. I obviously like Carolina to win this game on the road and I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I also like the over, which I’ll take for half a unit as well.
Panthers vs. Sharks (6:00)
Huge mismatch for this cross conference matchup and the price shows it with Florida at -400 at home here. Florida’s a fantastic team and my pick to win the East again. After a lousy run, they’re on a five game point streak with four wins in that span, coming off a 7-5 win in Philly on Thursday. The Sharks are one of the worst teams in the league, coming off an 8-1 blowout loss in Tampa on Thursday. They have played pretty well lately though as that loss ended a three game win streak. That said, this should be an easy win at home for the Panthers. Obviously I can’t bet the moneyline or even the regulation line at -215. I’ll lay the -190 on their team total over 3.5, along with half a unit on the puck line and a unit on the over.
Canadiens vs. Capitals (7:00)
Pretty bad matchup here. The Habs are in last place in the East, but have won their last two games in a row, shutting out the the Preds 3-0 at home on Thursday. The Capitals have been very good this season, even without Ovi in the lineup, who’s already skating again. They’re in the second half of back to back tonight, coming off a 3-1 win in Toronto last night. That bounce back from their 2-1 loss at home against the Sharks on Thursday, which was their only loss in their last six games. Washington won the first game between these teams 6-3 at home on Halloween. I like them to win here again, even in the second half of a back to back. I’ll take them for half a unit along with the over for half a unit.
Senators vs. Predators (7:00)
Terrible cross conference matchup in this one. The Senators have struggled this season. They’re coming off a 2-1 win at home against the Red Wings on Thursday and have just a 3-5-2 record in their last ten games. Nashville’s by far been the biggest disappointment this season. They’re coming into tonight on a six game losing streak after getting shut out 3-0 in Montreal on Thursday night. I’d lean the Sens win at home and the over, but I’m not touching this shitty game.
Red Wings vs. Avalanche (7:00)
This cross conference game isn’t great. The Red Wings have been pretty lousy this season, coming into tonight’s game on a four game losing streak, coming off a 2-1 loss in Ottawa on Thursday night. The Avalanche started their season in pretty bad fashion and although they have just one win in their last four games, they’ve won eight of their last 13. Colorado’s the far better team here and I expect them to win on the road. I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Penguins vs. Maple Leafs (7:00)
Interesting Easter Conference matchup that two weeks ago would’ve been horrible. Both of these teams are in the second half of a back to backs tonight, both coming off losses yesterday and I lost on the overs of both of those games. The Penguins lost 4-2 in MSG last night, ending a pretty surprising four game win streak for them. Pittsburgh’s been horrible on both ends of the ice all season. The Leafs have been a solid team, with last night’s 3-1 loss at home to the Caps being just their third loss in their last 13 games. Toronto won the first game between these teams 4-2 at home in the first week of the season and I like the Leafs to bounce right back from last night’s loss with another win here. I’ll take Toronto for half a unit along with half a unit on the over.
Kings vs. Wild (8:00)
This should be a really solid game tonight as both of these teams have been playing really good hockey lately. The Kings are on a four game win streak, coming off a 3-2 win at home against the Stars on Wednesday night. The Wild are coming off a 5-1 win in Anaheim last night to extend their win streak to five in a row, jumping Winnipeg for first in the Central Division standings. LA won the first game between these teams on the road with a 5-1 win last month. I think Minnesota is the better team here and would lean very slightly that they win on the road, but with them in the second half of a back to back, even though there’s value on them as a +140 dog, I just don’t think it’s worth betting. I’d also lean the under, but at 5.5 with it juiced to the under, I’ll lay off this game entirely.
Oilers vs. Blues (10:00)
Interesting matchup to close the night as I don’t think either of these teams are all that great (even though the Oilers were my preseason pick to win the Cup), but have both played quite well lately. Edmonton’s coming off cashing an easy over for me on Thursday night in their 6-3 win at home against the Blue Jackets, their fourth win in their last five games to bounce back from getting shutout 1-0 in Vegas on Tuesday. The Blues after their terrible start to the season have been hot since hiring Jim Montgomery to be their new head coach, coming into tonight on a five game point streak with just one loss in that span, off a 4-3 overtime win in Calgary on Thursday. I’d lean the Oilers win this one at home, but at -280 there’s no shot that’s worth betting on. I’d also lean the over, but with how the Blues have trended under recently, I’ll lay off this game and end my night early.
