Sabres vs. Utah Hockey Club: 12/7/24 – Game Reactions/Recap

The Sabres continued their losing streak with a completely pathetic 5-2 loss at home today against Utah in a horrible effort that was a total waste of my time to watch.

Nick Schmaltz, getting the puck right in front and putting it past UPL in a chaotic play in front of the net 3:28 into the game got Utah on the board with some lousy defense for the Sabres. Lindy challenged the goal for goaltender interference and ended up being right, taking it off the board. The Sabres got the first actual goal of the game as with 9:46 left to go in the first, Tyson Kozak scored the first goal of his NHL career, redirecting a nice pass from Malenstyn right in front of the net to put Buffalo up 1-0. Nice to see the kid get on the scoresheet after his goal on Thursday in his first game was taken off the board. Not too bad of a first period, pretty evenly played.

Utah tied it on a screened shot from Michael Kesselring 3:18 into the second period that UPL never saw till the puck hit the top right corner of the net. Just 22 seconds later Utah took the lead as Luukkonen got knocked down as Gilbert pushed his guy into him, couldn’t get up quick enough and Mikhail Sergachev cashed in on the empty net to put Utah up 2-1. With 51.5 seconds left in the second, the Sabres defense looked pathetic and on a good second effort to get the puck past the goal line, Nick Schmaltz put Utah up 3-1 after his early goal in the game got taken off the board. Horrendous defense for Buffalo, just letting him sneak right up front. Pathetic period for the Sabres. Through the first 40 minutes of this game, Utah leads in scoring chances 18-8 and it sure looks like it.

The Sabres couldn’t score on a two on one, not even getting a shot off on what should’ve been a good chance, and Utah came right back up the ice with Jack McBain getting past the Sabres defense and putting them up 4-1. Kevin Stenlund added to the lead, making it 5-1 with a rocket from the top of the circle with 7:53 left in the game. How pathetic this Sabres team is. Kulich scored with 2:20 to go, beating Vejmelka five hole on the rebound of an Owen Power shot in front. Who cares, game’s already over.

FINAL: Sabres 2, Utah 5

Horrible game. This team fucking sucks. We’re an embarrassment and a joke to the league.

Taxes and palm trees…fire everyone and sell the team.
