NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 12/8/24

Yesterday I went 6-5-1 on the NHL, losing 1.6 units with a couple poorly sized plays on my end. Today we have a big slate for a Sunday with seven games. Let’s bounce right back!

Rangers vs. Kraken (1:00)

Not the best matchup here to start the day. I think the Rangers are a pretty solid team, but they’re in a bit of disarray right now. This past week they traded their captain Jacob Trouba and signed goalie Igor Shesterkin to the biggest contract extension ever signed by a goaltender. They’re coming off a 4-2 win at home against the Penguins on Friday night, just their second win in their last eight games. The Kraken aren’t great. After winning two in a row, they’re coming off a 3-2 loss in Jersey on Friday. The Rags won the first game between these teams with a 2-0 shutout on the road in November. I’d lean the Rangers win this one at home, but I don’t trust it enough to bet it at -175. I would also slightly lean the under, but I’m not betting this game at all.

Canucks vs. Lightning (4:00)

This should be a pretty fun cross conference matchup. The Canucks are playing well lately, with a 5-1-1 record in their last seven games, coming off a 5-2 win at home against the Blue Jackets on Friday, erasing a 2-0 deficit to get me a double winner. The Lightning have been solid too, one of the best offensive teams in the league, coming off an 8-1 blowout win on Friday against the Sharks at home. Tampa won the first game between these teams 4-1 at home early in the season. I think this one’s a complete toss up here and I’m not touching the side. I like the over in this one though, which I’ll take for a unit.

Senators vs. Islanders (5:00)

Horrible cross conference matchup here with both of these teams in the second half of back to backs. Both of these teams have had miserable seasons so far this year. The Sens have won their last two in a row, coming off a 3-1 win against the Preds at home yesterday. In their last six games they’ve gone 4-1-1. The Isles are coming off a surprising win yesterday, beating the Canes 4-3 at home, just their third win in their last eleven games. The Islanders won the first game between these teams 4-2 on the road in November. I’d slightly lean Ottawa answers back here at home, but I’m not touching this game. The total’s a complete toss up to me.

Jets vs. Blue Jackets (6:00)

This isn’t a great cross conference matchup here. The Jets have cooled off a bit from their incredible start to the season and are in the second half of a back to back tonight. They’re still tied with Minnesota for first in the Central, and come into tonight off two wins in a row, beating Chicago 4-2 yesterday afternoon after beating my Sabres 3-2 in overtime on Thursday to end a four game losing streak. The Blue Jackets have been inconsistent this year. They can be one of the worst teams in the league at points, like they are in the three game losing streak that they come into this game on, off a 5-2 loss in Vancouver on Friday night. Or they could be a pain in the ass team that could beat really good teams, like they did on the 5-0-1 run before that losing streak. Winnipeg won the first game between these teams 6-2 on the road in November and even in the second half of a back to back, I like them to win again here tonight. I’ll take them for half a unit with Comrie projected in goal. I also like the over, which I’ll take for half a unit as well.

Devils vs. Avalanche (7:00)

This is a great cross conference matchup tonight, easily the best game on the board today. Both off these are pretty solid teams. Jersey’s been fantastic all season with just five losses in their last 18 games. They’re coming off a 3-2 win at home against the Kraken on Friday night. The Avalanche have won two of their last three, in the second half of a back to back, coming off a 2-1 win in Detroit last night. They’ve been a bit inconsistent this year, with a good offense but a struggling defense. I think the Devils are the better team here and I’d lean they win at home, with the much better defense and I’ll take for half a unit. I do like the over too, which I’ll take for half a unit.

Flyers vs. Utah HC (7:30)

Quite the lousy cross conference matchup here which should actually make a fun game with both of these teams in the second half of back to backs after playing the matinee games yesterday. The Flyers are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Boston yesterday for their second loss in a row after going on a five game point streak prior to that. Utah has struggled this year, but come into today with a 3-1-1 record in their last five games after they embarrassed the Sabres with a 5-2 win on the road in Buffalo yesterday. Both the side and the total in this game are complete toss ups and I’m not touching it.

Stars vs. Flames (8:00)

I don’t expect this to be all that great of a game to close out the night. The Stars are coming off two 3-2 road losses in a row losing in Vegas on Friday and LA on Wednesday after a three game win streak. Dallas is a solid team though on both ends of the ice. The Flames have been up and down this season. Coming off a 4-3 overtime loss at home against the Blues on Thursday they have just one win in their last six games. I like the Stars to win this one at home tonight and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet on it.
