Tonight I didn’t think the Sabres were horrible, but giving up two power play goals, we lose 4-2 to the Capitals for the ninth straight loss.
The Sabres surprisingly scored first early in the game as Jordan Greenway scored on a tip in completely screened by Jason Zucker to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead just 1:36 into the game. Credit for the goal then got changed to Zucker. On the power play Tom Wilson redirected on John Carlson shot into the net right in front to tie up the game with 2:51 left in the first. After the hot start to the game, the Caps picked up the pace and were absolutely the better team in the first period despite the tied game.
5:11 into the second period, Tom Wilson gave the Caps the 2-1 lead tipping in a rebound right in front of UPL on the power play for his second of the game after Jakub Chychrun threw it on net. Buffalo tied it up again though a few minutes later with Kulich knocking down the puck right in front of Logan Thompson from a Bowen Byram shot to make it a 2-2 game 7:24 into the second. The Sabres played better in the second than the first.
Dylan Strome redirected the puck out in front to get the Caps their lead back with 8:55 left in regulation as he made it 3-2 with a breakdown defensively for Buffalo. Washington capped off the game hitting my puck line with an empty netter from Chychrun with 1:30 left in the game.
FINAL: Sabres 2, Capitals 4
I didn’t think the Sabres played bad tonight, but it was the ninth loss in a row for Buffalo. We didn’t generate much offensively, getting out chanced 19-12 and outshot 31-21.
