Sabres @ Maple Leafs: 12/15/24 – Game Reactions/Recap

It’s a good (or maybe bad thing in this case) that I have two side by side TVs or there wouldn’t be a chance I’d be watching tonight’s Sabres game with the Bills playing their biggest matchup of the year against Detroit at the same time. What horrible scheduling by the NHL on this one. While the Bills put on a show for a huge win in Detroit, the Sabres made it ten straight losses with a 5-3 loss in Toronto. Pathetic.

The Sabres got the first goal of the game 1:05 into the game, with a nicely placed shot on the power play by Jack Quinn to put Buffalo up 1-0 early. It didn’t take much more time for Buffalo to make it 2-0 as 2:46 into the game, Alex Tuch ripped a good one timer low glove side from the slot in transition. The Leafs got on the board though with 4:15 left in the first as Tie Domi scored his first goal of the season on the second effort right in front off a the filthiest assist I’ve ever seen from William Nylander on a backhanded pass from between the legs behind the net. Pretty solid first period for the Sabres on both ends of the ice.

9:17 into the second period, Jack Quinn scored his second goal of the game, getting the Sabres their two goal lead back in transition as JJ Peterka stole the puck moved up the ice, passed it over to Quinn trailing who ripped it in the net to put the Sabres up 3-1. The Leafs got back within one with 8:40 to go though, as Nick Robertson got set up nicely on a three on two up close to make it a 3-2 game. John Tavares tied up the game with 7:19 to go in the second, getting right in front of Levi and tipping in an Auston Matthews shot. John Tavares didn’t take long to score again, getting right in the slot and making a screened shot look easy to give the Leafs a 4-3 lead just 1:10 after the tying goal. Pretty lousy second period for the Sabres on both ends of the ice there, especially defensively in the second half of the period.

The third period was scoreless until John Tavares capped off the game with an empty netter to complete his hat trick with 2:12 left in the game, making it 5-3.

FINAL: Sabres 3, Maple Leafs 5

Ten straight losses. This franchise is a complete joke.
