Profitable Sunday for me on the NHL yesterday, going 2-2 to win 0.77 units. Just a three game slate today, but all three of these games look great! I’m only on one of them, so let’s go 2-0 and get the double winner on Avs/Canucks for our third winning night in a row!
Stars vs. Capitals (8:00)
This should be an awesome cross conference matchup as both of these teams have been really solid this season. The Stars are tied with the Avs for the third place spot in the Central Division and are in a bit of a slump right now, with two wins in their last five games, coming off a 2-1 overtime (which lost my regulation bet) win at home against the Blues on Saturday on an insane game winner in OT from Matt Duchene. The Capitals have been spectacular this season, leading the Metro Division. Even without Ovi in the lineup, they’re on a four game win streak with an 8-0-1 record in their last nine games, coming off a 4-2 win at home against my Sabres on Saturday night. The first game between these teams this season was close, with the Caps winning 3-2 at home back on October 17th. I’d very slightly lean Washington wins again here on the road and I’d slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet on either, so I’ll lay off this game completely.
Oilers vs. Panthers (8:30)
Awesome game here for the first rematch of the season of last season’s Stanley Cup Final. That series was incredible as the Panthers got out to a 3-0 lead before the Oilers teared back with three straight wins to force Game 7 where Florida lifted Lord Stanley at home with a 2-1 win for the first Cup in Panthers’ franchise history. The Oilers had a slow start to this season after being my preseason pick to win the Cup. They come into tonight on a five game win streak with eight wins in their last nine games, coming off a 6-3 win against Vegas on Saturday. The Panthers are having a great season as well, my pick to go back to the Cup Finals out of the East for the third straight season. After a great run of going 6-0-1, they come into tonight off two shutout losses on the road, 3-0 in Calgary on Saturday and 4-0 in Vancouver on Thursday. I’d lean the Oilers win this one at home with the added emotion from last year’s Game 7 loss and the better defense. But with the Panthers coming off two shutout losses in a row, I feel like they come out playing hard tonight knowing what the Oil are going to bring here. I’d also lean the under slightly, but I’m not touching this game. Should be an incredible matchup to watch.
Canucks vs. Avalanche (10:30)
Another good game in the West to close out a great three game slate. The Canucks have had a pretty good season, but have been a bit inconsistent. Coming off a 5-1 loss at home to the Bruins on Saturday, they have just one win in their last four games. The Avalanche were slow to start their season, but they‘re playing great hockey right now. Coming off a 5-2 win at home against the Preds on Saturday they’ve won four of their last five games. I like the Avs to win here on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. I also like the over, expecting both teams to score and I’ll take that for half a unit as well.
