NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 12/18/24

Really solid night for me on the NHL yesterday, going 7-2 to win 2.38 units (with late collapses from the Kings and Caps). Tonight we have a pretty good five game slate, let’s win again!

Red Wings vs. Flyers (7:00)

Lousy matchup in the East to start off tonight’s slate. The Red Wings stink, only better in the East than the Habs and the Sabres. They’re coming off a bit of a surprising 4-2 win at home against the Leafs of Saturday, just their second win in their last eight games (the other against Buffalo). The Flyers are just a bit better. They’re coming off a 4-1 loss in Minnesota but have a 10-5-3 record in their last 18 games. These teams played a week ago with Philly winning 4-1 at home last Thursday. I’d lean they win again here on the road and the under, but not enough to bet anything on this game.

Stars vs. Maple Leafs (7:30)

Solid cross conference matchup here as both of these teams, while showing flaws at times, have been very good. Dallas has three wins in their last four games as they hold a two point lead over the Avalanche for third in the Central, coming off a big 3-1 win at home against the Capitals on Monday. The Leafs are coming off an easy 5-3 win at home against my Sabres on Sunday and have three wins in their last four games as well. I’d slightly lean the better offense for the Stars getting them the win here, and I’d lean the under, but I don’t think there’s any edge in betting this matchup, so I’ll just stay off it.

Wild vs. Panthers (9:30)

This should be an awesome cross conference matchup between two teams that are both playing really good hockey this season. Minnesota’s having a great year and they come into tonight comfortably in second place in the Central (and the NHL for that matter), three points back from the Jets. The Wild are coming off a 3-2 loss at home to Vegas in a great game on Sunday, and although they have just two wins in their last five games, they do have seven wins in their last ten. After getting shut out twice in a row, losing 3-0 in Calgary and 4-0 in Vancouver, the Panthers bounced back on Monday night with a big win in Edmonton, winning 6-5 in a rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup Final in what was an absolutely incredible game to watch. Florida’s the most talented team in the East in my eyes and are my pick to go to the Cup Finals out of the Eastern Conference for the third straight year as they’re tied with the Leafs at the top of the Atlantic. The Wild dominated the first game between these teams with a 5-1 win on the road in Florida. I’d lean the Panthers answer back with a win on the road here. I’d also lean the under, but I don’t like any bet on this game enough to touch it. Can’t wait to watch though, should be a fun one.

Utah HC vs. Canucks (10:00)

This isn’t the best matchup but I could see this being a fun game to watch. Utah’s playing pretty well right now. They come into tonight on five game point streak with a 6-1-2 record in their last nine games, coming off a 4-3 win in San Jose on Saturday off a clutch late goal by Clayton Keller to cash my regulation bet on them. The Canucks are having a decent season and come into tonight’s game with a 7-3-2 record in their last twelve games, coming off a 3-1 win against the Avalanche on Monday (double loser for me on that one). I think Vancouver’s the better game here and I’d lean they win this one, but not enough to bet against them on the road with Utah playing well lately. I do like the over here though quite a bit and at only 5.5, I’ll take it for a unit.

Ducks vs. Jets (10:00)

Horrible mismatch here in the West to end the night. The Ducks have been one of the worst teams in the NHL this season, at the bottom of the Pacific Division. They ended a five game losing streak on Saturday with a 4-3 overtime win in Columbus, just their third win in their last eleven games. Anaheim’s especially struggled offensively. The Jets on the other hand are first in the NHL. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 4-3 win in San Jose last night and have a 5-1-1 record in their last seven games. This team’s been elite on both ends of the ice. I know it’s likely Comrie in goal tonight to give Hellebuyck the night off after he played yesterday, but I don’t care. Winnipeg’s the way better team here and them being on the road and in the second half of a back to back doesn’t scare me. The price is too cheap because of those factors and I’ll take the Jets for a unit. I considered the puck line too, but I’ll just stick to the moneyline here. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it with the pathetic offense for the Ducks.
