Sabres vs. Blackhawks: 12/27/24 – Game Reactions/Recap

Tonight the Sabres came out of the Christmas break firing and beat the Blackhawks 6-2 for our second win in a row after ending the 13 game losing streak on Monday, lead by an Alex Tuch hat trick at home.

The Sabres scored first with a nice wide open tip on by Zach Benson, left unguarded on the left side of the net 9:51 into the game. With 7:37 left in the first, Alex Tuch made it 2-0 on a shot that Mrazek made the initial save and the puck snuck past him. Just 15 seconds later, on a two on one in transmission Jack Quinn made it 3-0 on a nice play with Cozens. Dylan Cozens made it 4-0 with Quinn setting him up this time as the trailer with 42 seconds left in the period. Great start for Buffalo as we dominated the first 20 minutes, outshooting the Blackhawks 11-2.

Tyler Bertuzzi broke the shutout with 3:21 left in the second period with a rip from the circle in transition.

Seth Jokes made it 4-2 with some good passing on a zone entry by Chicago, 3:14 into the third. Alex Tuch answered back with his second goal of the game, scoring on a low angle shot to get Buffalo back to a three goal lead with 14:12 left in regulation. With 4:54, Alex Tuch got the hats to rain down on KeyBank Center, getting past the Blackhawks defense and scoring with a nicely placed wrist shot.

FINAL: Sabres 6, Blackhawks 2

Solid win for the Sabres tonight. We dominated Chicago, especially early. I know that doesn’t mean much since the Blackhawks are one of the only teams in the league that are worse than us, but it’s still good we got the W. Now let’s see if we could keep it rolling against decent teams.
