How SWEEP last night was, as I went a perfect 9-0 on the NHL to win 7.5 units for a monster night of hockey. Tonight we have a small four game slate. Let’s stack up the wins!
Capitals vs. Canucks (7:30)
This isn’t the best cross conference matchup. The Capitals are coming off a surprising 4-3 shootout loss in Buffalo on Monday night, but still lead the Eastern Conference, on a four game point streak. The Canucks have been pretty terrible recently with just two wins in their last nine games, coming off a 5-4 overtime loss in Montreal on Monday where they blew an early 3-1 lead. Washington’s the much better team here, especially defensively and I like them to bounce back from Monday’s loss with a win at home. I’ll take the Caps for a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Blackhawks vs. Avalanche (7:30)
This is such a horrible mismatch in the Central Division. The Blackhawks are the worst team in the NHL. Coming off a 6-2 loss at home to the Rangers on Sunday, they have just one win in their last seven games, and besides the win have given up at least four goals (and six four times) in every one of those losses. The Avalanche have been fantastic, tied with the Stars for third place in the Central. They’re on fire right now with an 8-0-1 record in their last nine games, bouncing back from a shootout loss to the Habs with a big 3-1 win against the Panthers on Monday. Chicago pulled off the upset when these teams played the first time back in October, winning 5-2 on the road. I expect the Avs to completely shit pump the Hawks tonight. I’ll take the Avalanche in regulation and their team total over 3.5 for a unit each here. I considered the alternate team total of 4.5 as well, but I’ll lay off that. I’d lean the over on the game but not enough to bet it.
Utah Hockey Club vs. Panthers (10:00)
This cross conference matchup isn’t interesting in the slightest to me. Utah is struggling right now, coming off a 3-2 overtime loss in Dallas on Saturday and have just one win in their last seven games. The Panthers are a very good team, comfortably in second place in the Atlantic Division, but the Cup Champs aren’t playing excellent either lately. Coming off a 3-1 loss in Colorado on Monday, they have just two wins in their last six. I like Florida to get right here with a win on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it at 5.5 or buy up to 6.
Kings vs. Flames (10:30) – POSTPONED
Not a great Pacific Division matchup to end the night. The Kings have been fantastic lately, comfortably in third place in the division, trailing the Oilers by two points. They’re on a four game win streak, coming off a 2-1 win against Tampa on Saturday at home, with a 12-2-2 record in their last 16 games. The Flames aren’t great. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight coming off a 3-2 overtime win in Anaheim (cashing my under) and have been pretty inconsistent, with seven wins in their last 19 games. I like LA to answer back here and I’ll take the Kings in regulation for a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to take it.
