The Sabres played an early game tonight, crumbling away a 2-0 lead after a solid first period and giving up four in the third period to lose 6-2 at home.

Sam Lafferty scored the first goal of the game just 2:37 into the game, with JJ Peterka going hard to the net, but Peterka didn’t touch the puck, with the setup pass from Laffery going off a Seattle defenseman to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead early. Jack Quinn made it 2-0 with 2:42 left to go in the first on a beautiful low angle shot from the bottom of the circle blocker side. Very nice period for Buffalo as we kept the momentum of our last two wins going.

Ryker Evans got Seattle back into the game, making it 2-1 with 7:12 left in the second period with the puck getting deflected off Zucker and then off the bottom of UPL’s glove and into the net. Unfortunate goal that should’ve likely gotten saved by Luukkonen. With 47.7 left in the second, the Kraken tied the game up at 2 as Andre Burkakovsky lifted the puck on a backhand off a rebound right in front. Buffalo looked way worse in that second period, as Seattle was absolutely the better team controlling the puck.

The Kraken took their first lead of the game 3:08 into the third period with Oliver Bjorkstrand getting credited for the goal in such a sloppy play. UPL made the initial save and then three different Sabres couldn’t clear the rebound in front, before it went off Jacob Bryson and into the net. Seattle added to it just 38 seconds later and made it 4-2 with a wrist shot on the rush from Kaapo Kakko. Kakko scored yet again on the power play just a couple minutes later on the power play on a one timer right in front 5:26 into the second. Absolutely pathetic defense by Buffalo. Brandon Tanev iced off the game that was pretty much already over, scoring with 3:35 left to make it 6-2 Kraken. What a fucking horrendous third period to crumble this game away.

Typical Sabres. That first period they played really solid hockey but it was all downhill from there. Complete collapse. The third was one of the worst periods that Buffalo’s played as of late. Another pathetic loss.
