Essentially a break even night for me on yesterday’s big NHL slate, going 5-4-1, losing 0.16 units. Tonight we have an early start with just two games. Let’s win!
Sabres vs. Hurricanes (6:00)
Pretty big Eastern Conference mismatch to start off the night. My Sabres have been awful this season, with just five wins in our last 22 games. After winning two solid games in a row, we followed that up on Saturday afternoon blowing an early 2-0 lead and giving up six unanswered goals to lose 6-2 at home to the Kraken. This team’s awful. Sell the team Terry. The Hurricanes have been very good this year, comfortably in the third playoff spot in the Metro and essentially just playing for playoff seeding. They’re coming off a surprising 3-2 overtime loss to the Ducks on Sunday and have a 5-2-2 record in their last nine games. I full expect a Carolina win here on the road and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Wild vs. Oilers (8:30)
This should be a fantastic game in the West as these teams are both in second place in their divisions with solid holds on playoff spots. The Wild have seven wins in their last ten games, coming off a 4-1 loss on the road in Vegas on Sunday. The Oilers are on fire. Coming off a 1-0 shutout win at home against the Kings, they’ve won six of their last seven games. Statistically, Edmonton is much better offensively than Minnesota is, but their defenses have allowed pretty much the same thing and have been very good. These teams split their first two games this season, both winning on the road, a 5-3 win for the Wild in Edmonton back in November and a 7-1 answer back by the Oilers in Minnesota in December. I’d lean the Oilers win this one again on the road, but I think the price is far too inflated at -215. I’d also lean the under, but don’t like it enough to bet on, so I will stay off this game entirely.
