NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 1/19/25

Brutal finish to the night on the NHL yesterday, going 4-11-1 to lose 6.11. Just no plays late went my way. Today we have just a quick three game slate that isn’t all that great. Let’s cash!

Devils vs. Senators (1:00)

Not the best Eastern Conference matchup with both of these teams in back to backs after early games yesterday. Yesterday afternoon the Devils started the day with a 3-1 loss at home to the Flyers. They have been very good this season, in second place in the Metro Division but they’re struggling right now with just two wins in their last ten games, with a five game point streak coming to an end yesterday. The Senators picked up a 6-5 shootout win at home against the Bruins yesterday in a matinee that I actually bet the under in. No shot that was anywhere near cashing. Ottawa’s played well lately with a 4-0-1 record in their last five games. The Devils won the first game between these teams 3-1 on the road back in October. I’d lean the Devils get another win here, but in no way do I think they’re worth the -192. I would lean the under as well, but I think the best play on this game is to stay off it entirely.

Canadiens vs. Rangers (7:00)

This Eastern Conference matchup isn’t great but it could be a decent game, with both of these teams struggling on the season but not playing too bad lately. They’re both in the second half of back to backs. Last night the Habs gave up a 3-0 first period lead, giving up seven unanswered goals and going on to lose 7-3 at home to their rival Leafs. That ended a six game point streak for Montreal, but they have an 11-3-1 record in their last 15 games. The Rangers beat the Blue Jackets 1-0 in a shootout after a double shutout last night and have seemingly figured something out, on a seven game point streak with a 6-1-2 record in their last nine games. New York won both previous games between these teams with a 7-2 win on the road in October and a 4-3 win at home in November. I’d slightly lean the Habs avoid the season sweep here with a win at home and I’d slightly lean the over, but I’ll lay off this game as well.

Stars vs. Red Wings (8:00)

This isn’t a great matchup either to close out a day with some pretty lousy hockey games. Both of these teams are coming off pretty lopsided losses yesterday. The Stars have been very good this season, comfortably in a playoff spot in the first Wild Card in the West, pretty much playing for seeding. They lost 6-3 in Colorado yesterday and have just one win in their last four games, but have eight wins in their last eleven games. The Red Wings have been lousy on the season but hot lately. Coming off a 5-1 loss to the Lightning last night, they’ve won eight of their last ten games. Dallas is still the way better team here and I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit at home for my only play of the day. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
