I won my only NHL bet easily on the Stars yesterday for half a unit. Today we have a big nine game slate with a handful of day games, let’s get after it!
Keeping these write ups short today.
Bruins vs. Sharks (1:00)
Terrible matchup to start the day. Both of these teams suck. That said, the Bruins are the far better team here and the Sharks are pretty much an auto fade. I’ll take the B’s in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the under slightly, but I’m not touching it.
Avalanche vs. Wild (3:00)
This should be a decent game in the Central. Both of these are good teams that along with Dallas are in a three way battle for seeding with the second and third spot in the division and the first Wild Card in the West. The Wild are in the midst of dealing with a ton of injuries and I’d expect the Avs to win this one at home. I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I like the over as well at 5.5, which I’ll also take for half a unit.
Kraken vs. Sabres (4:00)
Pretty lousy cross conference game as both of these teams blow. In the first game between these teams a little over a week ago, the Sabres blew a 2-0 early lead and gave up six unanswered goals to lose 6-2. I don’t expect that bad of a collapse this afternoon again. I’d lean the Kraken still win, but I’m not betting them. I do like the over quite a bit though, which I’ll take for a unit.
Golden Knights vs. Blues (6:00)
This is a pretty interesting matchup. The Golden Knights are one of the best teams in the NHL and they’re my pick to win the Cup, but they’re struggling right now with just one win in their last six games and on a three game losing streak after a 5-3 loss in Chicago on Saturday. The Blues are playing pretty well and are in the Wild Card mix, but I feel like Vegas needs to get right. I’ll take the Knights in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but I’m not betting it.
Maple Leafs vs. Lightning (7:30)
This should be an awesome game between two of the playoff teams in the Atlantic. Although the Leafs won both previous games between these teams and are higher in the standings, I’d lean the Bolts are the better team that should win here on the road. I’ll lay off the side though in a game that I think is too close to bet on. I do like the over, which I’ll take at 6 for half a unit.
Islanders vs. Blue Jackets (7:30)
Terrible matchup here in the Metro and the price on it is way too lopsided. I like the Blue Jackets to win here on the road as a dog and I’ll take them for half a unit. I considered going with the +1.5, but I think the -180 is too pricey there so I’ll just take a shot at the moneyline since I think they win anyways. I’d lean the under, but I’m not betting it.
Blackhawks vs. Hurricanes (8:30)
Huge mismatch in this cross conference game. The Blackhawks, who are shockingly coming off a 5-3 win against Vegas on Saturday are the worst team in the NHL, where the Hurricanes, coming off a 3-2 win against Vegas on Saturday have been very good this season, comfortably in a playoff spot in the Metro. This should be an easy win on the road for Carolina and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit. I feel like the total is a complete toss up, so I’ll stay off it.
Utah Hockey Club vs. Jets (9:30)
This is another pretty big mismatch in the Central. Utah’s not playing great and although they’re coming off a 4-2 win against the Blues on Saturday, Winnipeg’s the far better team here as they sit in first place in the entire league. The Jets won the first game between these teams with an easy 3-0 shutout at home. I like them to win again here on the road and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d lean the under, but I’m not touching it.
Kings vs. Penguins (10:30)
Pretty lousy matchup for tonight’s nightcap. Even though they’re in a bit of a slump with just one win in their last four games, the Kings are the far better team here and I fully expect them to win at home. I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but with the Kings trending under recently I’ll stay off the total.
