NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 1/27/25

Winning Sunday for me on the NHL, going 2-1 to win 0.85 units. I’ll take it in the midst of the Bills losing. Tonight we have a five game hockey slate, let’s cash in!

Red Wings vs. Kings (7:00)

Not the best cross conference matchup to start the night. The Red Wings aren’t all that great this season but are still in the midst for the log jam for a playoff spot in the East, with a lot of lousy teams still right in the mix. They’re coming off two big wins in that race, shutting out Tampa 2-0 at home on Saturday after beating the Habs 4-2 on Thursday and have a 10-3-1 record in their last 14 games. The Kings are holding the third spot in the Pacific Division but haven’t been all that great lately. Coming off a 3-2 overtime loss in Columbus on Saturday (win for me on the Jackets +1.5), they have just two wins in their last seven games. LA won the first game between these two teams 4-1 at home in November. I’d lean they win again here on the road and the under, but I’m not betting it. I’ll lay off this game.

Flyers vs. Devils (7:00)

This isn’t a very exciting Metro Division matchup. The Flyers have been pretty terrible this season, and after they went on a 5-0-1 run last week, they’ve since lost two in a row on the road, losing 3-1 to the Islanders on Friday and 6-1 to the Rangers on Thursday. The Devils have been very good this year, playing for home ice against Carolina in the Metro. After a big slump with just two wins in the span of eleven games, they’ve since won their last two in a row, beating Montreal 4-3 in overtime on the road on Saturday after a big 5-1 win at home against the Bruins on Wednesday. These teams just played two weeks ago in Jersey, with the Flyers winning 3-1. Jersey’s the way better team here and I like them to win this one on the road in Philly tonight. I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under but not enough to bet it.

Blues vs. Canucks (7:30)

This Western Conference matchup sucks as both of these teams are still in the Wild Card race, but are both playing pretty lousy. The Blues come into tonight off two losses in a row after a string of four wins in six games, losing 4-2 at home against Vegas on Thursday and following it up with a 2-0 shutout loss on Saturday to the Stars. The Canucks are coming off a surprising 2-1 win at home to the Capitals on Saturday (big loser for me), just their third win in their last eleven games. The first game between these teams went to overtime, with the Blues winning 4-3 on the road back in December. I’d lean the Blues with a defensive edge get the win here at home again, but it’s way to close to bet on. I’d also lean the over, but I’ll stay off this game completely.

Oilers vs. Kraken (9:30)

Big mismatch in this Pacific Division game. The Oilers, who are coming off a 3-2 win against my Sabres on Saturday get Connor McDavid back in the lineup tonight after he served his three game suspension. Edmonton’s been fantastic, a point back from Vegas for the Pacific Division lead. The Kraken have been pretty horrendous on the season, but they’re playing pretty well right now with five wins in their last eight games. Out of those five wins though, two were against the Sabres and two were against the Penguins, so it doesn’t mean much. The Oilers won the first game between these teams 4-2 on the road earlier tonight and I fully expect another easy win here for them. I’ll take the Oilers in regulation for a unit. I like McDavid to score tonight as well as he comes back from his suspension, which I’ll take for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.

Sharks vs. Penguins (10:30)

Horrible cross conference matchup to end the night. The Sharks are the worst team in the NHL (right alongside the Blackhawks). Coming off getting shit pumped 7-2 at home to the Panthers on Saturday (easy W), they’re on a six game losing streak with just three wins in their last 20 games. The Penguins are just marginally better, coming into tonight off two losses in a row, 4-1 in Seattle on Saturday and 5-1 in Anaheim on Thursday, and have just three wins in their last 13 games. The first game between these teams in Pittsburgh needed a shootout to decide it, with the Pens winning 4-3 at home. They should win again here on the road, but I’m not touching the side here. I do like the over though since neither team can keep the puck out of their own net, and I’ll take it for half a unit.
