I won half a unit on last night’s big NHL slate, going 5-3. I’ll take it, tonight we have just a three game slate with some solid matchups. Let’s win again!
Senators vs. Jets (7:00)
Not the best cross conference matchup, but I think this could be a fun game. The Senators are struggling a bit right now, on a four game losing streak after coming out of the break with a 5-2 loss at home to the Habs to come out of the break on Saturday (I split that game, cashing the over but losing the moneyline). They’re still having a pretty good season though, currently hanging onto the second Wild Card in the East. The Jets been fantastic on both ends of the ice the entire year, leading the Western Conference. They coasted through the first 59:34 of their game on Monday night against the shitty Sharks, with Josh Morrissey scoring the game tying goal with 26 seconds left in regulation, before Mark Scheifele won it for them 1:33 into overtime. Regardless though, they got the win and they’re now on a ten game win streak. Winnipeg won the first game between these teams 4-2 at home in December. I’d expect they win again here on the road and I’ll take the Jets for half a unit to extend the win streak. I like the over as well, which I’ll take for half a unit too.
Avalanche vs. Devils (9:30)
Really good game here between these two playoff teams in this cross conference matchup. The Avalanche haven’t been great coming out of the break, losing 3-1 in St. Louis on Sunday and 2-1 in Nashville on Saturday. They’ve been good this season though, comfortably in the first Wild Card spot in the West. The Devils have been solid, tied with the Hurricanes as those two teams are pretty much locked in for a first round matchup and are playing for home ice the rest of the way. Coming off a 5-0 blowout shutout on Sunday in Nashville to bounce back from a 4-2 loss at home to the Stars out of the break, they have six wins in their last ten games. Colorado won the first game between these teams with a 4-0 shutout win on the road in Jersey in December. I’d lean the Avs win here at home tonight to bounce back from their two losses out of the break, but not enough to bet it. I’d also lean the under slightly, but the best play here is laying off this game entirely.
Kings vs. Canucks (10:00)
I don’t love this Pacific Division matchup, but it could end up being a solid game. The Kings are on fire lately. Coming off a 5-2 win at home against the Golden Knights on Monday, they’re on a six game point streak with just one shootout loss against the Ducks in that span. The Canucks are a point back from Calgary for the second Wild Card and have struggled quite a bit and have been inconsistent all year. After a pretty hot run going into the break with a 6-1-1 record in their prior eight games, they came out of it with two losses on the road over the weekend, losing 3-1 in Vegas on Saturday and 2-1 in Utah on Sunday. These teams split their first two games, both winning on the road, a 4-2 win for the Canucks in November and a 5-1 win for the Kings in January. I think the road trend flips here and I like the Kings to win this one at home. I’ll lay the -180 here on a LA for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but I’m not touching it.
