I went 5-5 on the NHL last night, losing 0.68 units on the big slate. Tonight we have a mixed bag on a five game slate. Let’s win it back!
Rangers vs. Capitals (7:30)
Not a terrible game in the Metro Division to start off the night. The Rangers have struggled this year, but they’re right back in the mix for a Wild Card spot again, on the outside looking in, two points back from Columbus and tied with Detroit. They’ve won seven of their last ten games, coming off 4-0 shutout wins back to back on Sunday against Nashville and Monday against the Islanders. The Capitals have been fantastic, leading the East. They ended a three game losing streak on Monday night, blowing a 3-0 lead, then winning 5-4 at home in a shootout against the Senators. The Caps have won both previous games between these teams at home, 5-3 in October and 7-4 in January. I like them to complete the season sweep tonight and I’ll take them for a unit. I’ll also go back to Ovi anytime goal as he’s 11 away from Gretzky for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Blackhawks vs. Senators (7:30)
Such a terrible cross conference game. The Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the NHL, but come into tonight off two wins in a row after a pretty shocking 5-1 win at home against the Kings on Monday night (obviously a loss for me). The Sens haven’t been great, and they’re struggling a bit right now with just one win in their last seven games. On Monday night, they erased a 3-0 deficit against the Capitals on the road, but still lost 5-4 in a shootout. Regardless of the slump, Ottawa’s still the way better team here and I’ll take the Senators in regulation for half a unit. I like the over as well, which I’ll take at 6 for half a unit as well.
Golden Knights vs. Maple Leafs (10:00)
Great cross conference game between the teams leading the Atlantic and Pacific Divisions and they’re both playing great right now. The Golden Knights after a bit of a slump have won five of their last six games, now four points ahead of the Oilers in the standings, coming off a 2-0 shutout win at home against the Devils on Sunday night. The Leafs are tied at the top of the Atlantic with Florida, coming off a 3-2 shootout loss at home to the Sharks on Monday where they blew a 2-0 lead going into the third period. That was just their second loss in their last ten games. Toronto won the first game between these teams with a 3-0 shutout at home in November. I’d lean Vegas wins here in a close game at home in the fortress to answer back to that loss, and I’d slightly lean the under, but the best move here is to just lay off this game completely.
Kings vs. Blues (10:30)
Not the best matchup between these Western Conference teams as they face each other for the second time in five days. When these teams met on Saturday for the first time this season in St. Louis, the Blues got a nice 4-1 win at home. LA was on a hot streak, but have since lost their last four games in a row, coming off an embarrassing 5-1 loss in Chicago on Monday night. They do still hold the third spot in the Pacific, three points ahead of the Flames and four behind the Oilers. The Blues have struggled on the season, but have played pretty good lately. Coming off a 6-3 loss in Dallas on Sunday, they’ve gone 5-1-1 in their last seven games. I like the Kings to answer back from Saturday’s loss with a win at home tonight and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Canucks vs. Ducks (10:30)
Lousy Pacific Division matchup. The Canucks have been terrible, falling out of their second Wild Card spot in the West, now two points back from Calgary. Coming off a 6-3 loss in Seattle on Saturday, they’ve won just one of their last five games. The Ducks have been even worst on the year, four points behind them, but have been playing much better lately, with a 9-3-1 record in their last 13 games. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a surprising 6-2 win in Edmonton last night. These teams split their first two games in Anaheim, with the Canucks winning 5-1 on the road in November and the Ducks answering with a 5-2 win at home last Thursday. The side is a complete toss up to me, making the Canucks price at -200 way too expensive to even consider. I do like the over though at 5.5, which I’ll take for half a unit.
