Tonight in Florida, the Sabres got shut out 4-0 by the Cup Champs in a pathetic, uninspiring game for our sixth straight loss.
Florida took the 1-0 lead, 7:20 into the game, with AJ Greeen right in the paint tipping the rebound into a completely open net after a really nice shot in front by Nate Schmitt that UPL made the save on and then got drawn out of the crease after the rebound. Pretty bad defensively for the Sabres. Buffalo had a couple decent scoring chances on the rush, but the Panthers were the far better team on both ends of the ice, as expected, through those first 20 minutes.
The Panthers made it 2-0 with 10:28 left in the second period, with a long range shot by Carter Verhaeghe scoring through a ton of traffic in front on a beautiful shot he placed perfectly in the top left corner of the net. With 2:51 left in the second, Florida added to the lead. UPL got a piece of Sam Bennett’s shot which squeaked through five hole, before Anton Lundell tapped it into the open net behind Luukkonen to make it 3-0. Another lousy period for the Sabres.
After an uninspiring third period for Buffalo, Sam Bennett scored on the empty net with 14 seconds left to cap off the loss for Buffalo.
Final: Sabres 0, Panthers 4
Six losses in a row. Another pathetic, uninspiring loss as we got shut out by Vitek Vanecek in his first start as a Panther. We got outshot 35-21 in this boring loss. I’m sure we’lll get smoked against the Oilers and Vegas in our next two games.
