This afternoon the Sabres started their game with some great chances in a scoreless first period, but as things fell apart we lost 4-1 on the road in Minnesota.
Solid first period for the Sabres despite it being scoreless after 20 minutes, as Buffalo generated a lot of good chances to score and some nice looks, definitely looking like the better team through 1.
Minnesota scored the first goal of the game, 54 seconds into the second period, with the Sabres defense left Marco Rossi wide open right in front, on a pretty bad collapse for the Wild to make it 1-0. The Wild made it 2-0 on a delayed penalty with some chaos in front of the net, with Brazeau getting credited for the goal as the bouncing puck made it in the back of the net. After a review on what could be considered for a kick into the net, it still got determined to be a goal, 5:07 into the second, with no kicking motion and just a bad deflection of Brazeau’s leg. Mats Zuccarello beat UPL glove side to make 3-0 Minnesota with 11:49 left in the second on another defensive breakdown for the Sabres after a drop pass from Boldy, with three Sabres in front of the net and not going to the puck. This team is so bad. Quite the lousy second period for Buffalo.
The Sabres finally scored their first of the game with 13:12 to go in regulation, on a JJ Peterka goal on the rush on some nice passing between Dahlin and Owen Power to set him up on the zone entry in four on four play. Freddy Gaudreau scored on the empty net to cap off the game with 32.4 seconds left.
FINAL: Sabres 1, Wild 4
This looked like it could’ve been a good game for Buffalo today. They started off with a ton of really good opportunities in the first, but after the slow start for Minnesota, things quickly unraveled in the start of the second.
Back at it again tomorrow afternoon in what I’m going to assume with be another pathetic loss in Winnipeg in the second half of a back to back.
