Sabres @ Jets: 3/23/25 – Game Reactions/Recap

In the second half of a back to back this afternoon, James Reimer led the way in goal for the Sabres to pull off a shocking 5-3 win on the road in Winnipeg against the West-leading Jets in a game they were outshot 36-17.

JJ Peterka, who had the only Sabres goal yesterday, opened the scoring today with a nice quick shot from the top of the zone to make it 1-0 Buffalo, 9:15 into the game. Solid first period for Reimer, since the Jets were significantly the better team, outshooting Buffalo 11-3 in that first period.

The Jets answered early in the second period, with Nico Niederreiter scoring on a deflected puck on the power play tying the game up at 1-1, 2:05 into the second. Buffalo took the lead back on a perfect one timer top left shelf to make it 2-1 Sabres with 1:11 left in the second period on just our seventh shot of the game.

Tyson Kozak, playing in his hometown, made it 3-1 Sabres on the rebound off the faceoff with 12:37 to go. Winnipeg answered back though less than 20 seconds later with Colin Miller beating Reimer short side to get the Jets back within one to make it a 3-2 game. Buffalo took the two goal lead again, shorthanded, as Alex Tuch got away on a breakaway and beat Comrie on the rush with 6:36 left in regulation. The Jets got it back within one yet again on a top shelf snapshot from Nikolaj Ehlers on the zone entry with 3:28 left in regulation. Ryan McLeod capped off the game with an empty netter for Buffalo to win it 5-3.

Final: Sabres 5, Jets 3

Impressive win on both sides of the ice. I thought Reimer was fantastic, making 33 saves against a very good team and I couldn’t believe the offense was able to score five goals on just 17 shots. Pulled off a win I didn’t see coming whatsoever. This fucking team.
