Solid night for me on the NHL yesterday as I went 7-2 to win 1.96 units. Tonight we have a pretty brutal four game slate, but let’s cash in some bets on it!
Islanders vs. Canucks (7:30)
I don’t think either of these teams are any good, but they’re both still right in the Wild Card mix in their divisions. The Islanders are on a six game point streak, but just have three wins in their last eight games, coming off a 4-3 shootout loss at home against the Blue Jackets on Monday. They’re just a point back from the Habs for the second Wild Card in the East. The Canucks are now five points back from the Blues for the second Wild Card in the West. Coming off a 4-3 shootout win in Jersey on Monday where Conor Garland forced OT with his game tying goal with 36 seconds to go, they’ve gone 4-2-1 in their last seven games. The Isles won the first game between these teams 5-2 on the road in November. I’d give a slight edge to them at home here, but this is pretty much a coin toss that I’m not touching. I do like the over in this one though, especially with it at 5.5 juiced to the under. I’ll take a shot on the over for half a unit at + money.
Blackhawks vs. Devils (7:30)
Horrible cross conference matchup. Both of these teams have been brutal. The Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the NHL, already eliminated from playoff contention. They’re coming off a 7-4 win at home against the Flyers on Sunday, ending a seven game losing streak. The Devils are pretty much locked in third place in the Metro and I fully expect them to get eliminated pretty quickly by the Canes in the first round. They gave up the game tying goal with 36 second left in regulation, losing 4-3 in a shootout to the Canucks at home on Sunday, their third loss in a row after a 4-1 stretch. Jersey won the first game between these teams 4-1 at home in December. Chicago’s pretty much an auto-fade to me and I like the Devils to win here on the road. I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I’d lean the over very slightly, but didn’t consider betting it.
Oilers vs. Stars (10:00)
Big matchup here out West. The Oilers, despite still having McDavid and Draisaitl both still out of the lineup, have been rolling lately, with a 4-0-1 record in their last five games, coming off a 5-4 win against the Kraken on Saturday night. They’re comfortably in the playoffs, now two points back from the Kings for home ice in the first round. The Stars have been very good, three points ahead of Colorado for home ice in the first round. They’re coming off a 3-0 shutout win at home on Monday against Minnesota (easy win for me) and are on a 16-4-3 run. These teams split their first two games, with Dallas winning 4-1 at home in October and the Oilers answering with a 5-4 win at home earlier this month. With Edmonton missing their two superstars, I like the Stars to win here on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Ducks vs. Bruins (10:00)
Horrendous matchup between two bad teams to end the night. The Ducks haven’t been good all season. Coming off a 5-2 loss at home to the Canes on Sunday, just their third win in their last ten games. The Bruins have been terrible since dismantling their team at the deadline. They’re on a six game losing streak, coming off a 7-2 loss in LA on Sunday (easy winner to cap off my night), and they have just three wins in their last 17 games. The first game between these teams went to overtime in February, with the Ducks winning 3-2 on the road in Boston. I’d definitely lean the Anaheim wins this one at home, but I don’t trust them enough to bet on as favorites against pretty much anyone in the NHL. I’d also lean the over, but I’ll lay off this game completely.
