Sabres vs. Penguins: 3/27/25 – Game Reactions/Recap

Tonight the Sabres won their third game in a row, dominating the Penguins early on their way to a 7-3 win on home ice, in a completely meaningless game.

The Sabres opened the scoring early, just 27 seconds into the game with Tage Thompson walking in from the circle into the slot with a quick shot to make it 1-0 Buffalo. Buffalo made it 2-0 just 4:44 into the first, with Peyton Krebs tipping a long range shot from Connor Clifton into the back of the net. Sid couldn’t be kept off the board though, making it 2-1 as we left one of the best players in the history of the league wide open right in front, making it his 20th straight point-per-game season, passing Gretzky of the most in NHL history. Pretty good period for the Sabres to start this game, especially early. Nice pace on my over too with three goals in the first.

Jiri Kulich scored 3:36 into the second period to make it 3-1 Sabres getting a drop pass from some great work off the wall to the middle of the ice from Bowen Byram. Buffalo made it 4-1 with 14:40 left in the second with a rip from the from the top of the left circle, chasing Tristan Jarry out of the net. Jiri Kulich picked up his second of the period, on a nice wrist shot with 8:26 left to make it 5-1. The Sabres kept it rolling just 28 seconds later to cash my overrun a tip in for a free goal for Tyson Kozak. Cash the over. With 25.1 seconds to go Alex Tuch came in on transition with Owen Power adding to the blowout to make it a 7-1 game late in the second. Great period for Buffalo there scoring five goals in a game that has absolutely no meaning.

To open the third period, Blake Lizotte got credited with the Pen’s second goal of the game, that looked like it got accidentally kicked in by Dahlin to make it a 7-2 game. Who cares at this point. In garbage time, Kevin Hayes made it 7-3 with a tip in right in the crease for the Pens.

FINAL: Sabres 7, Penguins 3

Solid win for the Sabres tonight in a game I honestly didn’t give a shit to watch. That’s three in a row for Buffalo, winning meaningless games. They played great tonight, especially early to get out to a lead fast. Good game for them, but does it really matter? Reimer was great in goal again tonight, that’s really the only takeaway to me, despite us scoring seven goals.
