Tonight the Sabres put together a solid game to beat the Senators 5-2 on the road, sweeping the season series against Ottawa, once again in a game they were a bit outplayed in.
Alex Tuch got the Sabres on the board first tonight, getting the rebound past Linus Ullmark who had no idea where a rebound ended to make it 1-0 Buffalo just 8:38 into the game. Rasmus Dahlin made it 2-0 Sabres with 8:09 left in the first with a hell of a rip from the point on a one timer. Pretty solid period for the Sabres once again against Ottawa. We somehow own this team this year.
In a four on four hockey, in a beautiful give and go play with Tage Thompson and Peterka, Tage scored an absolute beauty of a goal to put the Sabres up 3-0 with 7:24 to go in the second. Ottawa finally got on the board with their answer back, as Claude Giroux got right in the slot with a quick slot to make it 3-1 with 6:14 left in the second period. We played good again that period, with some solid hockey, although the Sens were the team I though were controlling the puck much more in that period.
In the third period, with 10:01 left in regulation, Peyton Krebs stole the puck at the blue line and wheeled down the ice on a breakaway, beating Ullmark to make it 4-1 Sabres. The Sens answered right back though 23 seconds later on a shot from the wall, walking in from the point to the circle by Josh Sanderson to get Ottawa back within two. With 2:39 left in the game, Ryan McLeod capped it off with an empty netter.
FINAL: Sabres 5, Senators 2
Great win for the Sabres tonight on a really good road trip, doing it again in a game where I thought Ottawa brought the pressure more than Buffalo did, outshooting us 35-22 with yet another good game in goal for Reimer. Fifth win in our last six games. Pretty solid as we get rolling after the season’s already over.
