Including unfortunately losing my Vegas future and series bet, last night I went 3-3 (with my game plays being solid) on the NHL, losing 1.32 units. Tonight we have two elimination games as the Hurricanes and Stars both look to advance on the road, let’s bounce back!
Game 5: Capitals vs. Hurricanes (7:00)
I have series bets on the Caps that I think are pretty much dead at this point, and I expect the Hurricanes to end this series tonight, as they’ve been the better team through this series, just draining everything out of Washington with their man to man defense. After the Hurricanes dominated Game 1 and got a 2-1 overtime win on the road, the Capitals bounced back nicely with a 3-1 win at home to even the series. But Carolina answered back even better in Game 3, with a 4-0 shutout win at home for Freddy Andersen. Game 4 wasn’t great for the Caps either, with the Hurricanes putting them at the brink of elimination with a 5-2 win at home. The Canes outshot the Capitals 38-21 in that game, and even when they were down only generated six shots on goal in the third period. I potentially can lose almost 5 units on the Caps if they lose tonight, and I’ll buy out of it with 6 units on the Canes. I’d still be on Carolina even if I didn’t have those series bets, just for less (probably 1.5-2 units). I’d lean the under here, which I can’t believe didn’t hit in Game 4, but with this being an elimination game that I see Washington trailing in late, we’ll see Carbury pull Thompson early, leading to more goals. I’ll stay off the total.
Game 5: Jets vs. Stars (9:30)
For as far off I was on the Caps/Canes series, I was pretty spot on in this series, expecting the Stars to end it in five (maybe six games). The Jets didn’t play well in Game 1 at home, losing 3-2 on a Mikko Rantanen natural hat trick. They bounced back nicely in Game 2, tying the series with a 4-0 shutout win for Hellebuyck at home. In Game 3 on Sunday, the Stars answered with a big three goal third period, winning 5-2 at home. Dallas took a commanding 3-1 series lead in Game 4 on Tuesday with Mikael Granlund getting a hat trick at home in a 3-1 win. I’ll win 1.5 units on Dallas when they end the series and I’ll double down on that tonight with 1.5 units on the Stars at + money. I’d lean the under again, but because of it being an elimination game, I’ll stay off it.
