Pretty much broke even last night, making a couple bucks on the Oilers win, going 1-2, losing both my player props. Tonight we have Game 5 in the East as Florida has another chance to close it out. Let’s end this series and win!
Game 5: Hurricanes vs. Panthers (8:00)
I thought for sure after Game 3, well really after Game 2, that Carolina was absolutely getting swept in these Eastern Conference Finals again, but they hung on and got a win in Game 4 on the road, crushing me big time and forcing Game 5 tonight. The Canes weren’t as awful as their 5-2 loss in Game 1 looked, with a fantastic performance in goal from Bobrovsky in a game they outshot the Panthers 33-20 and generated an expected goal rate of 3.73 to Florida’s 2.2. In Game 2 on Wednesday night though, the Hurricanes got completely dominated in every facet of the game, getting blown out 5-0 at home to go down 2-0 in the series, only generating 17 shots on goal and having Freddy Andersen chased out of the net. Andersen got benched for Game 3 on Saturday night, which was close through the first two periods, tied 1-1 going into the third, but then the Panthers poured it on, scoring five in a row in the first 10:37 of the third to win 6-2 at home to put Carolina on the brink of elimination. In their do or die Game 4 on Monday night, the Hurricanes held off elimination, locking down the Panthers in Freddy Andersen’s return with a 3-0 shutout win. I thought Carolina played really well in that game, which was actually a lot closer, with two of the Canes goals coming on the empty net. Especially early, the Hurricanes dominated the start of that game, but I thought after the goal, Florida started pressing way more than they did early and had some good chances late to knot it up at 1, just not getting off the perfect shot or Andersen making the save. I still fully expect the Panthers to close this thing out again and not make this a testy series for themselves like they did last year in the Cup Finals. I have 2 units already on the series play here, and I’ll once again double down on it with 3 units on the Panthers and another unit on the puck line. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
