I don’t have high expectations for the Sabres whatsoever this year, I don’t even have “maybe we could compete to get into the playoffs and see what happens” expectations going into this season. I think this team is going to fucking suck. Tank for Gavin McKenna I guess. I’m just so sick of watching this team lose and lose and never improve year after year. Just a horrible organization from top to bottom. Now watch us finish bottom five and lose the lottery.
Tonight we opened the season at home with a 4-0 shutout loss to the Rangers, and let me know if you’ve heard this before, we didn’t look awful in the loss.
The Rangers got on the board first, 11:43 into the first period, as the Sabres couldn’t clear the puck, Vinny Trocheck got a nice shot on net, and Alex LeFreniere snuck the puck between the pipe and Lyon to put New York up 1-0. Pretty lousy first period for the Sabres, looking lost defensively on the goal, and not generating much offensively.
The Sabres did look better to start the second, getting some good looks but not being able to solve Shesterkin. I thought Alex Lyon played well too. Much cleaner period for Buffalo.
I thought Buffalo got some decent looks on Shesterkin, but Carson Soucy walked in and got the puck on the left side, walked in and made it 2-0 Rangers with 5:14 to go. With 2:49 left in the game, J.T. Miller got the puck past Lyon to ice off the game. Adam Fox then put the finishing touch on the game with an empty netter across the entire ice to finish a 4-0 shutout win for Shesterkin and the Rangers.
Final: Sabres 0, Rangers 4
I honestly didn’t think the Sabres played horribly tonight, but we still embarrassingly lose in a 4-0 shutout at home to start the season. This team is gonna be just as pathetic as I expected them to be.
Tank for McKenna.
