First winning night of the year for me on Thursday, going 4-2 to win .4 units. Not bad. Today we have a loaded 16 game slate with every team in action after a day off since the NHL scheduling department are a bunch of clowns. Let’s win again!
Jets vs. Kings (1:30)
Solid matchup in the West to start the day between two teams that I think play pretty similar hockey. I’d lean the Jets win at home slightly and the under, but not enough to bet either. I’ll lay off this game.
Flames vs. Blues (4:00)
I don’t think this game’s great. I’d slightly lean the Blues on the road and the over, but I’m not touching this game.
Bruins vs. Sabres (7:00)
Horrendous matchup here. The Bruins are 2-0 but I still expect them to be a pretty lousy and maybe even a lottery team this year. My Sabres looked decent in their home opener on Thursday, but still got shut out 4-0 by the Rangers. I’d lean the Bruins win at home, mainly cause I’m so low on my Sabres, but I’m not touching this matchup. I’d lean the over, but I’ll lay off this game completely. Let’s go Buffalo, I guess (or Tank for McKenna).
Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs (7:00)
This is a pretty decent game that should be fun to watch. I do think the Red Wings will have a decent year and compete for a playoff spot, but they looked like shit, losing 5-1 in their season opener against the Habs. The Leafs looked great in their 5-2 win against Montreal the night before. I like Toronto to win here on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but I’m not betting it.
Lightning vs. Devils (7:00)
I’d expect this to be a pretty fun matchup tonight with both teams opening the season with losses. I like Tampa to win this one at home, which I’ll take for half a unit. I considered taking the over here for my first total of the season, but I’ll just stick to the Bolts.
Panthers vs. Senators (7:00)
Really solid Atlantic Division matchup here between two teams I expect to make the playoffs. I do think Florida’s the better team here and would lean the two time Cup Champs win at home to start the year 3-0. I like the over, but not enough to bet it.
Islanders vs. Capitals (7:00)
The Islanders are still a boring team to me. I like the Caps to bounce back here from their opening night loss to the Bruins and I’ll take them here on the road for half a unit. I’d lean the under slightly, but not enough to bet it.
Penguins vs. Rangers (7:00)
These teams played in a pretty boring game on opening night of the season, with the Penguins winning with a 3-0 shutout at home. The Rangers bounced back with a 4-0 shutout of their own against my shitty Sabres. I’d lean the Rangers are the better team here and win but I have zero interest in betting this matchup.
Hurricanes vs. Flyers (7:00)
Big mismatch here in the Central. The Hurricanes are a very good team while the Flyers blow. I’ll lay the expensive -195 on Carolina in regulation for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the under.
Blackhawks vs. Canadiens (7:00)
Not a great game here. The Blackhawks do look slightly better than last year, but still are a bottom five team in the NHL this year. I think the Habs are a playoff team in the East and I like them to win here on the road. I’ll take Montreal for half a unit.
Predators vs. Mammoth (8:00)
Interesting matchup here between two teams in the Central that I don’t think make the playoffs. This game’s a crapshoot. I’d slightly lean the over and Utah, but I’m not touching this game.
Wild vs. Blue Jackets (8:00)
Decent game cross conference game here. I think the Wild are going to be a really solid team this year and they looked great in their 5-0 shutout win to open the season on the road. I don’t think the Blue Jackets are that bad, and they should compete for a playoff spot (but still likely miss a Wild Card spot), but Minnesota’s the better team here and I’ll take them for half a unit.
Avalanche vs. Stars (9:00)
Fantastic game between two playoff teams in the Central. These teams both have the talent to win the Stanley Cup this year and I expect them to both easily make the playoffs. I’d slightly lean the Avs at home and the over here, but not enough to bet either.
Oilers vs. Canucks (10:00)
Kind of an interesting matchup in the Pacific. Both of these teams are good, and I do think the Oilers are the better team here and should bounce back from blowing a 3-0 lead to lose 4-3 in a shootout to the Flames in the Battle of Alberta to open the year. I’ll take Edmonton for half a unit. I’d lean the over.
Sharks vs. Ducks (10:00)
Not the best Cali rivalry game. I think both teams will improve this year from being in the basement of the NHL last year, but they’re both still not great. I’d very slightly lean San Jose at home and the over, but I didn’t even consider betting it.
Kraken vs. Golden Knights (10:00)
I think this is a pretty big mismatch in the Pacific. The Kraken I don’t see being a good team this year, and although Vegas has had two crazy games to start the season, the Golden Knights are still my pick to win the Cup. I’ll take the Knights on the road here for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
