I won my only NHL play last night with the Caps 1-0 shutout win, winning half a unit. Today we have a big ten game slate, including a bunch of day games, let’s crush it!
Sabres vs. Avalanche (12:30)
Huge mismatch to start the day. I think my Sabres are going to be the worst team in the league this year, while the Avs look like they’re going to contend for the Cup. I know I said I’m just sticking to half unit bets for most of the first month of the season, but I just can’t resist this one. I’ll take the Avalanche at way too cheap of a price for a unit here. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet on it.
Bruins vs. Lightning (1:00)
This Atlantic Division matchup isn’t great. The Bruins are surprisingly 3-0 to start the year while Tampa’s 0-2. I think this game is one where what is supposed to happen does and corrects itself, so I’ll take the Lightning, who should be the way better team this year, on the road for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but can’t bet it this early in the year.
Senators vs. Predators (1:00)
Not the most interesting cross conference matchup. I don’t think it’s great. The Senators are the playoff team in my eyes and although they’re 1-0-1, I don’t think the Preds improved enough in the offseason for them to be good. I’ll take the Sens at home for half a unit. I think the total’s a crapshoot here.
Islanders vs. Jets (1:00)
This cross conference matchup’s pretty boring. The Islanders suck and they’re 0-2 to start the season. I think Winnipeg’s a soli playoff team, and I like the Jets to win here on the road, so I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under.
Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings (2:00)
These Atlantic Division teams are in the second half of a home and home, with the Red Wings having won 6-3 at home against Toronto on Saturday. A bit of a surprise to me there since I think the Maple Leafs are one of the best teams in the East. The Leafs should avenge Saturday’s loss today at home and I’ll lay the heavy -192 for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but that’s tough to bet this early in the year, as much as I considered it.
Flyers vs. Panthers (7:00)
Big mismatch in the East. The Flyers aren’t a good team. The Panthers on the other hand are back to back Stanley Cup Champions and three time defending Eastern Conference Champions. This price is way too cheap on Florida and I’ll take the undefeated Cup Champs for a unit. I’d lean the over very slightly, but I’m not betting it.
Blue Jackets vs. Devils (7:00)
Interesting game here in the Metro. I think both of these teams are pretty decent and fun to watch. I think the Devils are the better team here and should win, but Columbus is a feisty team and I don’t love betting this matchup. I’ll lay off it entirely. I’d lean the over, but it’s too early to bet on it.
Canucks vs. Blues (7:30)
Not a great game here in the West between two 1-1 teams to start the year. Vancouver’s the better team and should win at home, but I don’t like it enough to bet on. The total’s a toss up, and I’ll stay off this game completely.
Wild vs. Kings (8:00)
Great game here in the West between two teams I think both make the playoffs. I’d slightly lean the Wild bounce back here from their 7-4 loss in their home opener on Saturday night to the Blue Jackets, but this game’s way too close to bet on. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Blackhawks vs. Mammoth (8:30)
Lousy matchup in the West to end the night. The Blackhawks have showed a little bit of fight in their 0-2-1 start to the season. I think Utah’s a decent team, despite that I don’t think they’re making the playoffs. I like the Mammoth to win here on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
