In today’s matinee, the Sabres built off Wednesday’s big 8-4 win at home, with Alex Lyon shutting out his former team for a 3-0 win at home against the defending two time (although quite injured) Stanley Cup Champions.

The Sabres started the game with two penalties in the first 3 minutes, but killed both of them off. Then when they went on the power play, the Sabres got the first goal of the game as Josh Doan scored his first as a Sabres, 7:13 into the game on a Tage Thompson shot that deflected off Doan in the crease. I know we got the lead but that wasn’t the best first period, playing undisciplined hockey.

Josh Doan picked up his second goal of the game making it 2-0 Buffalo, scoring off a beautiful pass from Jason Zucker, again on the power play, with 8:48 left in the second period. The Sabres made it a 3-0 game with 5:40 left in the second on another beautiful pass with Alex Tuch setting up a tip in by Owen Power. Solid period for the Sabres. 

With a scoreless third period, that caps off the Alex Lyon’s 32 save shutout against his former team for the Sabres to win 3-0, our second win in a row.

Another impressive win, in a completely different way than Wednesday’s. I didn’t think the Sabres played their best hockey today. They were undisciplined with 28 penalty minutes, but they killed all of those off. Impressive in it’s own right. Alex Lyon had a big day with his shutout, and the defense helped him, forcing a lot of shots from the outside. The offense cashed in twice on the power play and two of the goals were set up with fantastic passes. Josh Doan’s impressed me in his start in Buffalo as well, setting up plays and was rewarded with his two tip ins today.

Let’s keep this rolling.

Like I said on Wednesday, I’m perfectly fine with losing bets against the Sabres if we win games like that.
