Sabres @ Maple Leafs: 10/25/25 – Game Reactions/Recap

The Sabres have been playing great lately, with four wins in our last five games, coming off beating the Leafs 5-3 in a great game last night at home for the first half of a back to back home and home. Tonight with a slightly earlier start for the World Series, they couldn’t follow it up but played really well again, losing 4-3 in overtime.

The Sabres scored the first goal of a game, on a rip of wrist shot in transition from Tage Thompson from the circle, top shelf on a one timer from Kulich with 6:20 left in the first period. The Leafs tied up the game late in the first, with 1:27 left in the period, with Nick Roberston tipping in the pick past UPL, right in front with two Sabres defenseman that couldn’t get their stick on the puck off a pass from behind the net from Easton Cowan. I thought Buffalo was the better team through that period, and liked how we played on both ends of the ice, outshooting the Leafs 12-6.

Toronto took the lead 1:59 into the second, with Matias Maccelli tipping in a rebound off the side of the net from John Tavares to make it 2-1 Leafs. The Sabres tied it up with 13:01 left in the second, with a great effort on the wall by Kulich after stealing the puck, giving in the Benson, who dropped it right back to Kulich for the quick shot. But after a quick review, it got overturned, taking the goal off the board. With 5:37 left in the second, Bowen Byram tied it up at 2 on a screened shot right inside the red line. Get pucks to the net.

On the power play with 12:54 remaining in the third period, the Sabres got the lead back on a Tage Thompson goal in front that honestly was just bad goaltending by Toronto. They don’t ask you how you score though, still counts the same way. Toronto tied it though with 6:50 to go, cashing my over, with Dakota Joshua cutting across the ice and shooting it in transition. Pretty bad defense by the Sabres there. Both team had some nice chances, but it’s onto overtime.

1:28 into overtime, John Tavares ended it for the Leafs, streaking up the ice alone and ripping the puck past Luukkonen.

FINAL: Sabres 3, Maple Leafs 4 (OT)

Another really solid game for the Buffalo Sabres. Other than a couple soft goals on our defense, I thought we played really well on both ends of the ice, and just come up short.
