I won my only bet last night on the NHL on the Leafs comeback effort to hit the over, winning half a unit. Let’s win again on tonight’s ten game slate!
Sabres vs. Mammoth (7:00)
Interesting matchup here between two up and coming teams that have had better than expected starts to their seasons, so I think this game could tell a lot about both of them. The Sabres are exceeding my expectations as a fan, and are on six game point streak, ending a three game overtime losing streak with a 4-3 shootout win at home against the Capitals on Saturday to improve to 5-4-3 on the year. I’m still not sold on us being good though. The Mammoth have had an incredible start to the season, with an 8-4 record, coming off two losses in a row after losing 4-2 at home to the Lightning on Sunday. They’ve impressed me so far this year. I’d lean Utah wins this game on the road tonight, but don’t like it enough to bet on. I do like the over though, which I’ll take at 6 for half a unit.
Canadiens vs. Flyers (7:00)
This should be a pretty fun matchup in the East between two young teams. The Habs have been electric in their 9-3 start to the season. Coming off a 4-3 overtime win against Ottawa on Saturday, they’re own a three game win streak. The Flyers are coming off a 2-1 loss on Sunday at home to the Flames, their second loss in a row, to drop to 6-5-1 on the season. Their offense has struggled quite a bit but their defense has been fantastic. I like Montreal to get the win here at home and I’ll take the Canadiens for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet it, even at 5.5.
Islanders vs. Bruins (7:00)
Terrible game here in the East. I think both of these teams are pretty bad, but they’re both overachieving right now. Coming off a 3-2 win against the Blue Jackets with first overall pick Matthew Schaefer scoring twice, the Isles won two games in a row to improve to 6-5-1 on the season. The Bruins are on a three game win streak off a shocking 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon against the Hurricanes (big loser for me), improving to 7-7 on the year. Boston won the first game between these teams 5-2 last Tuesday at home, and I’d slightly lean the Isles answer back with a win, but I’m not touching it. I’d lean the over, but don’t like it enough to bet on with how inconsistent both of these teams have been, so I’ll lay off this game completely.
Rangers vs. Hurricanes (7:00)
This is a huge mismatch in the Metro. The Rangers are on a three game win streak, coming off their second overtime win on the road in a row, beating the Kraken 3-2 on Saturday to improve to 6-5-2 on the season. They’re still looking for their first win of the season at home in MSG though, where they’re still 0-4-1. The Hurricanes have looked great in their 7-4 start, but are struggling a bit as of late, with just one win in their last four games, coming off a pretty shocking 2-1 loss in a matinee on the road in Boston on Saturday. I like Carolina to bounce back here on the road and I’ll take it for half a unit at a way cheaper price than I expected at -115. The total’s a toss up to me. I’d lean the over with the line set at 5.5, but not quite enough to bet on it.
Stars vs. Oilers (8:00)
Great game here in what a lot of people would have likely picked preseason as the Western Conference Finals for the third straight year. Both of these have struggled lately though. After Dallas started the season 3-0, they went on a four game losing streak, but are now on a six game point streak to get to 6-3-3 on the year, coming off a 4-3 shootout loss on the road against the Panthers on Saturday for their second loss in a row after another three game win streak. The Oilers have looked pretty brutal. Coming off a 3-2 loss in St. Louis last night that I’m glad I stayed off of, they have just two wins in their last six games (with two OT losses thrown in there), dropping to 6-5-3 on the season. I like the Stars to win this one at home, especially with Edmonton in the second half of a back to back, and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Wild vs. Predators (8:00)
Awful matchup in the Central between two lousy teams. Both of these teams have been pretty bad this year. The Wild being bad is a bit surprising to me, but they’ve been terrible in their 4-6-3 start to the season. They ended a five game losing streak on Saturday with a 5-2 win at home against the Canucks. The Predators haven’t been much better with a 5-6-3 record. They’re in the second half of a back to back, coming off a 5-4 overtime loss at home to the Canucks and have just one win in their last five games. I’d lean Minnesota wins this one at home tonight with the Preds in the second half of a back to back, and I’d lean the under since neither of these teams can score, but I’m not touching this game.
Avalanche vs. Lightning (9:30)
Pretty solid cross conference matchup. The Avalanche are off to a solid 7-1-5 start to the season. Coming off giving me a double loser with their 3-2 overtime loss in San Jose on Saturday, they have just two wins in their last seven games. The Lightning started the year horribly, but have since turned it around, on a five game win streak, coming off a 4-2 win in Utah on Sunday. I think the Avs are the better team here and should win at home tonight, but don’t like it enough to bet on. The total’s a complete toss up to me. I’d very slightly lean the under, just cause the line is set to 6.5, but the right play on this game is laying off it completely.
Golden Knights vs. Red Wings (10:00)
This should be a solid cross conference matchup. The Golden Knights are still my pick to win the Cup this year and have been very good, but they come into tonight with just one win in their last four games, coming off a 4-2 loss at home to the Avs on Friday night. The Red Wings are playing well, with four wins in their last five games to improve to 9-4 on the season, coming off a 3-2 shootout win in San Jose on Sunday. Vegas is the better team here and I like them to win at home to bounce back. I’ll lay the -192 on them for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it at 6.5.
Ducks vs. Panthers (10:00)
I don’t think anyone would’ve expect it coming into the season, but this should actually be a really fun matchup. These teams played last Tuesday with the Ducks winning 3-2 in a shootout down in Florida. The Ducks are off to an impressive 7-3-1 start and have been pretty fun to watch, with their young offense excelling. They’re on a three game win streak, coming off a 4-1 win at home against the Devils with five wins in their last six games. The Panthers have been struggling with injuries and are just 6-5-1 on the year. After a four game losing streak, they’ve since gone 3-1-1 in their last five games, coming off a 4-3 shootout win at home against the Stars on Saturday. I’d lean Florida wins here on the road, but don’t think they’re worth the -165. The total’s a complete toss up to me, so I’ll lay off this game entirely.
Kings vs. Jets (10:30)
Solid Western Conference matchup to end the night here. The Kings are just 5-4-4 on the season, losing their last two games, coming off a 4-1 loss at home to the Devils on Saturday, ending a seven game point streak. The Jets have been very good this year again, as expected with the best goalie in the world backstopping them. Coming off a 5-2 win at home against the Penguins on Saturday, they’re on a three game win streak, playing great on both ends of the ice. Winnipeg won 3-2 at home in the first game these teams played early in the season, and I like them to win again. I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over slightly at 5.5, but not quite enough to bet on it.
