Tonight the Sabres got shut out at home by the Blues in a pretty pathetic effort, with St. Louis in the second half of a back to back.
The Blues got on the board first tonight, 12:44 into the game, with Mathieu Joseph stealing the puck and wheeling up the ice to make it 1-0 St. Louis, shorthanded. Pretty sloppy play for Buffalo to lead to that turnover, and subsequently the goal. I thought the Sabres looked slow and sloppy, but not awful in that first period. Gotta pick up the pace and control the puck better.
St. Louis made it a 2-0 game with a beautiful shot by Nick Bjugstad on the rush, just 2:42 into the second period. Pretty boring period after that goal, with the Sabres still not really doing much to score here.
Jimmy Snuggerud made it 3-0 Blues 4:48 into the third period on what looked like a kicked puck into the net past UPL. After review, they determined it was kicked in and that took the goal off the board. The Sabres beat themselves late in the game, first with a dumb penalty from UPL with a couple minutes to go, and after they killed that off, gave up an empty netter to Justin Faulk to win it 3-0.
FINAL: Sabres 0, Blues 3
What a pathetic loss. I got offered free tickets to go tonight, and it turns out saying no to that offer was a fantastic idea. We outshot St. Louis 27-17, but couldn’t solve Joel Hofer, who stinks, and the Blues, who have been one of the worst teams to start the season and were in the second half of a back to back. Bunch of chances to score and couldn’t do it. I thought UPL was pretty bad as well on the first goal. Point streak comes to an end.
How people think this team has a shot of ending this 14 year drought is laughable to me. We’re a bad hockey team.
