Losing night for me yesterday on the NHL, going 2-3 to lose 0.96 units, mainly thanks to a pathetic effort from my Sabres. Gotta bounce back and end this losing streak on tonight’s four game slate!
Red Wings vs. Rangers (7:00)
Not the best Eastern Conference matchup to start the night. The Red Wings are 9-5 to start the season and have played pretty well, with four wins in their last six games, coming off a 1-0 shutout loss in Vegas on Tuesday night. The Rangers aren’t great, and had a three game win streak come to an end with a 3-0 shutout loss at home to the Hurricanes on Tuesday night. They’re 6-6-2 on the season, but have been vastly better on the road, where they’re 6-1-1. New York’s offense has really struggled, scoring the fewest goals in the NHL, but their defense and goaltending has been the best in the league. I’d lean the Red Wings win this one at home, and I’d lean the under slightly, but not enough to bet either, so I’ll lay off this game entirely.
Islanders vs. Wild (7:00)
Terrible matchup in this cross conference game. The Islanders haven’t been great, with a 6-5-2 record, coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Bruins on Tuesday night at home. They are exceeding my expectations a bit and playing better than I thought they would, but they’re still not a good team. The Wild I expected to be better than that they, but they’ve struggled quite a bit in their 5-7-3 start, playing bad hockey on both ends of the ice. They’re on the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 4-3 loss in Carolina last night (win for me there). I’d lean the Isles win this one at home with Minnesota on the second half of a back to back, but I don’t trust them enough to bet on them. I’d lean the over, but at 6.5, I don’t see any value in betting it. I’ll stay off this shitty game completely.
Flames vs. Blackhawks (9:00)
Another lousy game here between two bad teams in the West. Calgary’s been one of the worst teams in the NHL, coming into tonight with a 4-9-2 record off their first two game win streak, beating the Blue Jackets 5-1 at home on Wednesday night. The Blackhawks have been better than I expected on both ends of the ice, but they’re still not great. They ended a three game losing streak on Wednesday with a 5-2 win in Vancouver. I like Chicago to get the win here on the road as a dog and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over at 5.5, but not enough to bet it.
Sharks vs. Jets (10:00)
Big mismatch here in the West, but it could be a fun game based on the how well the Sharks have played with their electric play from Maclin Celebrini. San Jose comes into tonight on a four game point streak with three wins in their last four games to improve to 5-6-3 on the season, coming off a 6-1 blowout win in Seattle on Wednesday (big time loser for me). The Jets have been great, with a 9-4 record. They had a three game win streak end in surprising fashion on Tuesday as they got shut out 3-0 in LA. Winnipeg’s the way better team here and I like them to win on the road. I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I looked at points props on Mark Scheifele, Maclin Celebrini, and Kyle Connor, but even parlayed I don’t think it’s worth betting (all three parlay’d together is still just +110, which is tough to ask for). At 6.5, I’d slightly lean the under, but didn’t consider betting on it.
Bets
.5u Blackhawks ML (+136)
.5u Jets in regulation (-130)
Record: 81-74 (-16.54 units)
