I went an undefeated 4-0-1 to win 2 units last night capping off a fantastic weekend of hockey. Tonight we have a four game NHL slate that’s not the best, let’s make it four winning nights in a row!
Devils vs. Islanders (7:00)
Not the best matchup here in the Metro Division to start the night. The Devils have been very good this year, with an 11-4 record on the season and they’re a perfect 7-0 at home in Prudential Center, coming off a 2-1 shootout win against the Penguins at home on Saturday. The Islanders are exceeding my expectations a bit, coming off a 5-0 shutout win against the Rangers in MSG in the first Battle of New York on Saturday. Jersey’s the better team here and should win at home. I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Rangers vs. Predators (7:00)
Terrible cross conference matchup in MSG. The Rangers have really struggled offensively, with a 7-7-2 record coming into tonight off a 5-0 shutout loss at home to the Isles on Saturday in the Battle of New York. They’ve been brutal at home. Not only are they still looking for their first win at MSG this year, they have been shut out five times already at home, and have only scored six total goals in their seven home games, with five of those goals coming in a 6-5 OT loss to the Sharks. It’s pathetic. They do have a favorable matchup tonight though against the struggling 5-8-4 Predators, who come into tonight on a four game losing streak after a 5-4 loss at home to the Stars on Saturday. I’d lean the Rags finally get their first home win tonight but not a chance I’d even consider betting it, let alone at -180. I do like their under though, since neither of these teams can score, and I’ll lay the -141 on the alternate under 6 line for half a unit.
Oilers vs. Blue Jackets (8:30)
Interesting cross conference matchup as neither of these teams have been all that great to start their years, both entering tonight’s game on three game losing streaks. The Oilers have been awful, with a 6-6-4 record, getting embarrassed in a 9-1 blowout loss at home to the Avalanche on Saturday night (easy winner for me on the Avs) for their third straight loss. They’ve struggled on both ends of the ice. The Blue Jackets have been inconsistent, on a three game losing streak as well, dropping to 7-7 on the season after a 4-3 loss in Vancouver on Saturday. Edmonton’s the clearly better team here, but with how poorly they’re playing, I don’t think they’re worth even close to the -170, so I’ll stay off this. Columbus isn’t that terrible of a team. The total’s a complete toss up to me, so I’ll stay off this game entirely.
Golden Knights vs. Panthers (10:00)
Fun cross conference matchup that pits together the two teams in the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals. The Golden Knights are 7-3-4 this year, which isn’t the best, but I could still see them win the Cup this year. They’re on a lousy stretch right now, with just two wins in their last seven games, coming off a 4-3 overtime loss at home to the Ducks (a Cutter Gauthier point away from me going 2-0 on it) in a really fun game. The Panthers are really struggling offensively with all their key injuries to start the year, and are just 7-7-1, coming off a 3-1 loss in San Jose on Saturday. I like Vegas to bounce back with a win here tonight at home and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the over at 5.5, but not enough to bet it.
Bets
.5u Devils ML (-155)
.5u Rangers/Predators under 6 (-141)
