Another profitable night for me yesterday on the NHL, that fell apart late, as I finished the night 8-8 winning 0.92 units. I’ll take it. Today we have a four game slate with an early matinee in Sweden, let’s make it a three day win streak!
Predators vs. Penguins (2:00)
The day gets started early as the NHL Global Series heads to Stockholm, Sweden for this Friday matinee. Not a great cross conference game though. The Predators are horrible, with a 5-9-4 record and struggling big time on both ends of the ice. Coming off a 6-3 loss in MSG on Monday, they’re on a five game losing streak with just one win in their last nine games. Team stinks. The Penguins started the season so hot, but since starting 6-2, they’re now 9-5-3, and coming into today with just one win in their last five games after a 3-2 loss at home to the Kings on Sunday. They’ve played well on both ends of the ice though. I like Pittsburgh to win this game to start the day and I’lll take them for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Hurricanes vs. Canucks (7:00)
This is a pretty big mismatch for a cross conference game. The Hurricanes have been very good, with an 11-5 record and they’re the clear cut favorite right now to win the East, playing fantastic on both ends of the ice. They had a four game win streak come to a surprising end on Tuesday, losing 4-1 at home to the struggling Capitals. The Canucks haven’t been great, dropping to 8-9-1 on the season after a 5-3 loss to the Jets on Tuesday. Vancouver hasn’t played well on either end of the ice. I like Carolina to win this one pretty easily in a bounce back spot at home and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit. I like the over as well, which I’ll take at 6 for half a unit.
Blues vs. Flyers (8:00)
Terrible cross conference matchup. I don’t think either of these teams are good. The Blues have played a little bit better lately after their horrendous start to the season. Coming off a 3-2 win against the Flames on Tuesday, they’ve gone 3-1-1 in their last five games, but they’ve struggled a ton on both ends of the ice this year. The Flyers have been pretty good defensively, but awful offensively. They’re on a four game point streak, dropping to 8-5-3 off a 2-1 overtime loss to the Oilers on Wednesday, their second OT loss in a row. I’d lean Philly wins here on the road as an underdog, but don’t like it enough to bet on. I’d also lean the under since neither of these teams can score, but don’t like that quite enough to bet it either, so I’ll lay off this game completely.
Mammoth vs. Islanders (9:00)
Not the best game, but this could be a fun matchup to end the night. The Mammoth started the season fantastic, but have since dropped off a bit, ending a three game losing streak on Wednesday, erasing a 2-0 deficit halfway though the game, scoring five unanswered (four in the third period) to beat the Sabres in a game that Utah was the far better team. The Islanders haven’t been nearly as bad as I expected. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 4-3 overtime win on the road in Vegas last night. They blew a 2-0 lead late in the second period, giving up three straight to the Knights, but Mathew Barzal tied it up with 2:37 to go, and JG Pageau ended it on a snipe shorthanded in OT after Vegas had dominated all of overtime up to then. With the Isles in the second half of a back to back, I’d lean the Mammoth win this one at home tonight, plus I think they’re the better team. The price around -200 is too expensive though, so I’ll stay off it. I do like the over though, which I’ll take at 6 for half a unit.
Bets
.5u Penguins ML (-122)
