Sabres vs. Oilers: 11/17/25 – Game Reactions/Recap

Tonight the Sabres played fantastic hockey from start to finish, keeping McDavid off the scoresheet as they dominated the Oilers in a 5-1 win at home.

The Sabres got on the board first tonight in the closing minute of the first period, with Noah Ostlund making a nice move down low in the crease and beating Stuart Skinner on the doorstep, going around him to put Buffalo up 1-0 with 56.3 seconds left in the first. Pretty good first period with both teams getting a few good chances and the Sabres getting the early lead late in the period.

Edmonton tied the game up at 1 in a nice transition play with Leon Draisaitl setting up a wide open Jack Roslovic for a fast shot that beat Ellis, 4:29 into the second. Bowen Byram gave the Sabres the lead back with 11:19 to go, on a one timer from a nice pass by Tyson Kozak. Just 1:02 later, Beck Malenstyn had a beautiful tip in to make it 3-1 Buffalo. Another solid period for the Sabres.

The Sabres added to their lead with Ostlund’s second goal of the game with 12:05 left in regulation, on a great individual effort, taking the puck all the way around the net off the face-off, coming up the circle and placing a great shot to make it 4-1 Buffalo. With 2:23 to go, Tage Thompson capped off the game on an empty netter to end it 5-1.

Final: Sabres 5, Oilers 1

Fantastic win for the Sabres for our second win in a row. They outplayed the Oilers from start to finish and kept the best player in the world off the board. One of the most complete games they’ve played on both ends of the ice.

Let’s see if we could make it three wins in a row on Wednesday when I’ll be in the building against the worst team in the league when the Flames come to town.
